Private or Business Auto

You are the owner of a home remodeling business and you are in the process of transporting building materials to a job site in your F-150. You are suddenly involved in an accident that totally destroyed your truck.
You have had your truck insured as a private vehicle for the past ten years. How do you suppose your insurance company will handle your claim after the claim's adjuster determines that you were actually using your truck in the course of running your business?

The use of the truck in this case should not void any coverage at all, but the real issue is the fact that the business may be sued as well which in this case since the truck was not insured by the business will have no coverage.

I'd quite agree with hobowitharolex in saying that the truck not being insured by your business would not achieve any coverage benefit probably. It would be real easy for the claims adjuster that facts got covered on way to this mishap, & the fallout being unexpected from their point of view the decision goes against you! nyways all the best, as I feel the next step for you lies in checking up with the state-guidelines.

Hi Maze, I simply don't understand why people forget the 'concept of separate entity'. Whenever you're starting up with a business, you need to remember that you can act on behalf of the business, but in the eyes of the law, its a decision taken by your business...so they're never gonna sue you, rather they are gonna get your business sued. Will pray for you, Stella_McCartney

Thanks for the prayers, but did I do something wrong?

I see business owners every day who work out of their home and feel very comfortable that their homeowner's policy will take care of everything, because their insurance agent told them so.

Must have been a sub-standard carrier.
