I was told I had Uninsured insurance and was in a hit and run that was reported to the police and is reported as a hit and run by the police officer and the claims adjuster said I had coverage and then said no coverage only medical uninsured. I was never told this. I have the claims adjuster telling me I have coverage on my voice mail. Now they declined my claim. I want to sue and complain to the DOI. How can I get my claim paid? I was told liabiliy only and uninsured is all I have and now was explained only medical uninsured. I was told a hit and run is covered. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

UM coverage is of 2 types - (i) UMPD -> which covers your damaged property when hit by an uninsured motorist.
(ii) UMPI -> which covers your personal injuries.
I think you should check up which one you got enrolled for!

| Quote: | | I was told I had Uninsured insurance | and you do have UMBI.... | Quote: | | I had coverage and then said no coverage only medical uninsured. | This the the coverage (UMBI) that is required in most states...UMPD is not (only one state I believe) required, and not even available in all states | Quote: | | ....I was never told this. | When you bought your policy did you just ask for the minimum liablity limits required by your state? | Quote: | | I have the claims adjuster telling me I have coverage on my voice mail. | Did the adjuster say you have UM? (which you do) or did they say you have UMPD, or UM that will fix your car? | Quote: | | Now they declined my claim. Please explain...exactly what happened...(were you in the car)...the exact coverages you have and how/when you bought the policy..yr/make/model of your vehicle...and what state you are in...and perhaps we can assist additionally...also please answer the other questions I've asked. _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. Too be honest, IMHO you don't have much of a chance of getting coverage. Did you take certain actions based on this information that caused you some type of additional loss? The insurance companies view will be that either the information was not communicated very well or even that the flat out made a mistake. But the real test is were you adversely affected by this mistake? I'm betting not... just disappointed. I understand you frustration but it was simply a mistake at worst and you never were paying for that coverage. it would be different if they told you it was covered, you had the car repaired, and then they told you they were not going to pay for it. In that situation you would have be harmed by the misinformation and they did not correct their mistake in a timely fashion.
To be honest it sounds like you might be more upset that you just never had the coverage rather then you being mislead for a short amount of time. I completely understand that and it's unfortunate that this happened. |
