was a 22 year old passenger in a single car accident that broke my femur which resulted in 3 nights in the hospital and sugury to place a rod and screw put in my leg. I was off work for 3 1/2 months and had to go through a month of theropy before returning to work. Medical bills approx. 30k, and lost wages of around $4500. I am almost ready to settle with the insurance and would like to know where to start? What kind of settlement am i looking at? I was wondering where to start when the offering comes.... does it matter if he was drinking and driving and driving wrecklessly? didnt get a DUI though, got physical control. His coverages is 100 300 50...i would like to know a round about estimate of what I am expected to get so I know what to settle for. I talked to a lawyer and she said go for the limits...so after my bills that would leave about 70k, would the insurance settle for that?

No I never even thought about it. Actuallt I never even knew it was possible. I do have so many doubts that I won't be as nearly productive at work as I use to be. I was considered an asset to my company and I really hate to lose that opinion they have on me but I also don't want to woory about keeping it up if it is physically immpossible. How does one go about getting a retraining allowance? Any info would be helpful here.

You bring up a good question, this is something that you will definately want to see if it is available, you should post a seperate post on this under getting started, just through it out there and see what information comes out, you should ask your insurance agent or attorney if this benefit is available also. Definately post the question here.

Thanks Good natured I will definately make a post with in the next day or so. Never thought of this at all. I don't get a lot of answers from my atty. That is why I came here to begin with.I always hear well lets get this done first or lately its "lets get the first round of shots in first" No idea where I am on this case, if I would be eligible for policy limits since this is life time and it will effect me forever in sooo many ways, no idea when they even think this will settle. Lots of bills, insecurities, and such but no answers.

Don't thank me, thank erb, I did not think of the original idea, just thought it was a good idea, it is a very valid point though. You can see how conversation here can bring out many different questions. I am sure that if you post it, one of the adjusters could shed some light on if it is even possible. Training into a new career is expensive, you may want to ask them if there is a way that you can train into something that would be more on the management side of life versus the labor type jobs. goodluck

I'm posting that question today. I am really excited to see where it leads. Beiit would be. Being in my shoes is hard cause your whole future is no longer figured out the way I thought it was. Yep had me a 5 year plan. Didn't expect someone to come around and send me for a spin, literally. A little humor there. Sometimes I must amuse myself or this whole situation aggravates and depresses me.

If you are working with an attorney, dont the attorneys strive for the highest amount for you? This is of course because if your injuries which you are going to live with for your life and any other medical expenses that you might need in the future.

Yep I'm no stranger to the difficulties in life...Atty's do strive to get you the highest they possibly can but you have to figure in the economy (as usual). L know that sounds weird but let me explain. With prices of basic needs and gas rising some people have found them self needing to cut back on things they may not consider "as important". Some cut back on insurance coverage...cutting down to the lowest amounts so the monthly payment goes down. It amy solund dumb but if they are struggling to make it they may have not had a choice. So say it is the lowest amount (I think alot of places it can be as low as $15 000). Well if you had lossed wages, atty fees, medical, plus all you paid out of your own pocket, like gas to go to appointments and such. There really wouldn't be enough there to even nearly compensate especially if its life long. I don't exactly know what it is in my case. She was a young driver in her moms car. Whatever it is I will survive. I just thank goodness I'm not the primary bread winner in my family.
