Insurance is important for any business; there is no doubt about that. However, is it not the kind of coverage a business owner should rush through purchasing. Buying business insurance [Link removed as per TOU] is a complicated process and you want to make sure you have an insurance agent who will take the time to ensure that you have all of the policies your business needs to operate smoothly. Many business owners assume that purchasing a Business Owners Policy (BOP) is the only type of insurance they will need, but this is not the case. Although BOPs are useful for most businesses, it is also wise to purchase other business insurance policies to go along with a BOP that meet the specific needs of your business.

I agree that it is important to get the proper coverage. Businesses are all a bit different and it is of utmost importance that you have the proper coverage in the event of a loss. I have seen many business owners that feel they are covered until we review their policy and find out that is not the case. I have actually seen one instance where there was hail damage to several buildings, unfortunately, they were not all listed in the policy...big oops for the agent as he ended up paying for the loss out of his own pocket as he knew it was his mistake.
If your agent does not sit down and ask you several questions about your business then you may want to talk to some others that are willing to take the time to make sure you are properly protected.

I claimed bankruptcy four years ago. I am self employed. I am a private investigator And have been for ten years. Also I have worked for the same company as we'll for ten years.
Now with the new law that all PI/security will need to purchase agency Insurance. On the form to fill out it asks if you have ever claimed bankruptcy.. Will this affect me in anyway of getting my agency insurance..
Personally I do not think it's anyone a business but law is law..
Thank you

Only the insurance companies can tell you if a bankruptcy is problematic. The premium you pay is based on the risk you pose to an insurance company. Bankruptcy can be a symptom of other inherent character flaws that could expose an insurance company to more risk than usual.

While that may not be true in your case, it certainly is in others. Insurance fraud often involves folks who owe money around town and cannot pay, so they fake an insurance loss to try to get the insurance company to cover their debts. That's not the purpose of insurance.

It is the strategy of a business organization, that they purchase general insurance liability to protect or cover the hassles of the business like accident, injuries, and claims. The BOP abbreviated as business owners policy which covers the general liability and business equipment. The general liability insurance covers the claims of the third party.

General Liability Insurance covers negligent acts of business owners and employees, not necessarily "accidents, injuries, and claims". Methinks Hanrahan is not a native-speaker of English and is posting without full knowledge of what he writes.
