Hi,

Have you shared your insurance experiences with other community members? If not here this is the right place to introduce and share your insurance experience with other community members.

  • I am ...
  • How many insurance covers do you have?
  • The problems you faced while getting one?
  • Other issues you experienced with the insurance covers.

Share it with other community members and in the process you may help many in similar need.

Thanks,
Lakemen

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

Right now I am appointed with several companies - and use them for my clients as the situation calls for.

I toy with commiting to a company, but the right opportunity has not materialized.

I am a broker with AmeriPlan. My husband and I signed up because when I recently changed jobs, my former insurer denied us health benefits because my husband is diabetic and I am a smoker. Our plan would have increased from $150 to over $500 per month. While AmeriPlan is not insurance, they offer discounts on dental and medical benefits for less than $60 per month. These programs include chiropractic, orthodontics, prescription and vision care discounts.

AmeriPlan is a discount plan, and it only does offer discounts...maybe similar to the negotiated rates of PPO plan...that is if it has a good network. I don't know. I also think that in the market of discount plans, there are better ones than Ameriplan - but maybe not as cheap.

The things is, THEY were not raising your insurance. You probably went on COBRA which means you have to pay the entire insurance bill - not just the contribution the employer asked you to make.

Discount plans have a place, but it is very important that you don't market them as better than insurance. If somebody had Ameriplan, and ended up with a $30,000 hospital bill, I doubt it would be much help.

This is why many of the better discount plans require that only licensed agents sell them - so people really understand that they are not replacing a health insurance policy. And yeah - insurance costs a lot. However for true protection, I would consider a very high deductible health insurance policy rather than a discount program. Even that would cost a lot more than the figure you're quoting though.

Thanks for the welcome back. I mean to stop by but forget. Smile

I didn't mean to come down hard on the poster. I have to admit that I have sold a discount plan or two myself, but I did it reluctantly, and it was actually a pretty expensive plan that included some insurance benefits in it.

I am also aware that the price of health insurance puts it out of reach of many families, and I just wish I knew what the answer was. Hopefully some egghead in Austin or Washington can come up with a solution.

Now if you're talking about individual dental plans...sometimes a discount plan is an option to consider. When you look at the waiting periods, limits, copays, and deductibles, plus higher premiums.... a name brand discount plan (basically like the network and insurance company has without the insurance), can save money.

Hello, I am an insurance agent, I have a license in the states of PA and NJ. Currently I have my life accident and health License and my P&C license. I am currently studying for my 6 and 63 again, yes I let it lapse and I have to take it over again. I have been in this business for about 5 years and enjoy it very much!

Currently I work with many companies, I am always looking to help my clients out and do whatever I can for them. I found this website and thought I may be able to learn a thing or two or possibly help some people out with any questions they may have. Hope everyone had a great holiday.

I just joined today, i passed my Property & Casualty exams for wisconsin yesterday, I was pretty happy about that, now this week I am doing the classes for Life and Accident/health, i am a little more worried about those two
I am a student in a tech school , i am going to graduate in May with an associates degree in Finance: Business Administration , my ideal situation would be to own my own place doing investing and insurance, but that may be down the road a ways, not sure how to get in to it to start,
I took the exams so i could do a little intern spot at State Farm Insurance, hopefully that will give me a little insight on how the business works and how to get in full time after i graduate

thats about it for me, just hoping to make a living in something that interests me, after changing careers at 32 from manufacturing to finance
