I only choose to be appointed by companies I would do business with as an insured myself.

I think best way is to find out for yourself. take the quote from top 4 insurance companies, carefully review them and finalize the one which suits you the best.

I guess it would be better if you'd specify your region/state. I've heard that some of the major carriers are not doing well in specific regions. Again, it might vary on your nature of operation.

Well yes you are right there are some insurance companies who have got stranglehold in some states.

The "best" company is very much dependent upon the situation.
No disability carriers have a stranglehold in any particular state.
For a top occupation class, Guardian/Berkshire does have the best contract. This does not make them the best for all situations.
