Can you collect comp and unemployment in NY state?

I was hurt at work and I'm on compensation. I am now on lay off season but I'm still on call to come into work if they need me. My doctor has me on light duty but my employer has no light duty work, I still can't go back to full duty work so Comp pays me. Seeing I can work light duty if my company needs me, but can't go back to full duty, comp told me they would send me half benifits and I also could collect unemployment. Is this right? I don't want to get into any trouble collecting both. Thanks......

Well if they work comp people told you this, they should know...also when you apply for the unemployment benefit it will ask about other compensation, as long as you're truthful about your wk comp claim, there is no trouble you could get into...people get in trouble by lying or leaving out the fact they are getting money somewhere else...you'll be fine, if you stay honest..(and I'm sure you will)

Yes, you can collect in NY state. Here's a site with the unemployment requirements: swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/swzl_unemployment_NY.html
Hope this helps! God bless you! Take care!
