True, but only to a point. You must also

1. Be both "fully" and "disability" insured through Social Security to be benefit eligible. This is accomplished through payroll taxation (FICA) over a period of years.



2. You must have a disability that will either (1) last at least 12 months, or (2) result in your death; and,



3. You must be unable to work at pretty much any gainful occupation.




Oh yeah- don't forget about the 5-month waiting period before benefits will be awarded (payable on month 6).



THEN... you MIGHT get your SSDI benefits. Still, good luck on that one!
