The Donate button in posts?

by lilacsigh » Sat Dec 15, 2007 11:43 pm

Me being the nosy person that I am, was wondering how the donate button on the left hand side of the posts works as I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere.

What I'd like to know is who are you donating to? Can you choose how much of your funds to donate or is it the whole amount you have currently built up?

Enquiring minds want to know. :) Thanks in advance!

If it works like on the other forums you can donate to other members, on the one forum they did a fund raiser that was chosen by the administrators. that is my understanding, you can donate or people can donate to you. You can donate partially or all of it.

Ah I see, dreamer. It's not something I've came across on other forums at all before, that was why I asked. :)

So then if for example I think a member has made a particularly good or helpful post, I can donate to them some of my earnings as a way of saying thanks? I like that idea!

I think that's right but would appreciate clarification from someone just to be sure I'm understanding this correctly. Thanks for the input, dreamer. :)

I would have said just the same. :)

Dreamer, are you a member in the sister sites too.

Yeah, you can surely do that lilacsigh. :)

Thanks,

Thank you lakemen for the confirmation, much appreciated. :)

What a great feature that is! I'm a great believer that when you give, you get and that encapsulates that sentiment perfectly for me.

I'm sorry if I sounded a bit on the stupid side there but I've honestly never seen that before even though I've been around forums for more years than I care to admit. :) I really am impressed by that.

It did not sound stupid and a perfectly legit question, you never know until you ask and there are probably people who wondered and probably did not ask.

I'm glad you ask that question...I had one person (an individual that came to site for some answers, didn't become a regular member just needed help) and he donated his dollar to me...was very thoughtful, I think more posters of that type would do same for other members that helped if they understood what it was for. I couldn't find any site info on it either, (doesn't mean it's not here i just couldn't find it! )...Hey, Lakemen how about putting some info that is prominate on the site about that? thanks Lilacsigh for bringing that up i kept meaning to and of course also kept forgetting !

You're very welcome, Lori. I'm sure it was well deserved too, you do good work here! I looked also before I asked for the information and couldn't find it either. I'm glad I wasn't the only one.

That's a good suggestion, putting it somewhere that it'd be easier to see. I bet plenty would use it if they knew they could express their gratitude like that.

Mr Lakemen, can I make a suggestion please.

How about putting it in the Guest sig under the other one? I'm assuming it's a default signature for that group that's set up, the one that reads "Register now" etc in all the Guest posts.

Another line under that could be added, along the lines of "Want to thank a member? You can! It's a benefit of membership. Use the Donate button to share part of your earnings with them."

Ok, that's a bit long, but you get my drift. With a lot of Guest posts peppered around the board, it'd raise awareness of the option amongst members because we'd see it a lot. Good people like yourself and Lori would be rewarded more often for your hard work.

Another benefit is that it'd encourage Guests to register because they'd want in on the action when they suddenly realize not only do you get to be part of a great community, but you can earn money here by participating! So the membership would rise too, as would the posts, in turn growing and expanding the community even more. :)

Who'd have thunk eh..all that from one wee button!

Makes sense in my head but that's not always a good sign ;) Just wanted to throw my tuppence worth.

Thanks again for all the help!

Guests cannot donate. I put it in my signature, though. :D

Thanks,
Lakemen

Only the registered participants get the points right? Guests don't really earn anything do they? At least that is what I thought.

You are right, dreamer.
