Can I keep both the policies?

I'm an orthopedic surgeon and purchased an "own occupation" policy. I recently became employed by the hospital I work at and they will supply me with a long term policy as well.
My question is, can I keep both the policies? I was wondering if I could accept the free policy my employer is giving me and at least a portion of my current one, thus lowering my premium but keeping my benefit.

The group LTD usually does not affect the IDI benefit. Sometimes the IDI is taken into consderation on LTD benefits. If you become disabled you get both.

Yes, you can keep both policies. The more important question is whether you should keep both. Yes, keep both!

Work policies have more holes than swiss cheese. Keep both. They don't integrate with each other so you can fully collect on both.

This may or may not be true. One has to read their policies to be certain.

Max, you don't sell these policies and you've shown yourself not to have the knowledge necessary to answer the questions.

You can't make blanket statements about a policy you've not seen either.

Max, the difference between us is that I have actually sold disability policies to doctors and you have not.

There are no individual policies with own occupation coverage that integrate with group plans. If you know of an exception, feel free to show me that I'm wrong. His employer sponsored group plan won't integrate with his individual coverage. If I'm wrong, this will be easy for you to prove.

Instead, you are going to stop posting on this thread like you do with all threads once you've been shown to be lacking knowledge.
