Very short term disability

I ripped my rotator cuff in the line of work and the doctor says that I wouldn’t be able to work for at least 6 to 9 weeks. I pay for workman’s compensation but since I have never used it, am I eligible to use it for the coming 6 or so weeks? Will my rates go up if I do? Can I file for SSDI for a short period of time?

I think you should utilize the cover now, as it is for your safety, in case you don't go with it then why we spend for it since then.

Unless you are the employer, you don't pay for workers' comp... your employer either pays for it or self-insures for workers' comp. benefits.

There's no way you'll qualify for SSDI. Social Security Disability Insurance is not going to pay for a short-term disability as you described.

In order to get S.S. to pay for disability losses:
1) The disability must be expected to result in the beneficiary's death or last at least 12 months; and
2) There is a five-month waiting period after the onset of the disability before benefits are payable.

These are just a couple of reasons why you won't qualify for SSDI... there are more.

Self-employed persons may obtain worker's compensation insurance, but usually do not. Perhaps the OP means he has a STD policy.

There is a five-month waiting period

And the first month begins with the first day of the month following the disability event. If you were to be injured at 9:00am on June 1, your first of five months of waiting period would begin on July 1.

there are more.

Like the most difficult one: "Unable to perform any substantial gainful activity." Now that doctors can implant electrodes into the human brain that can allow a quadraplegic person to control robotic arms to feed himself, it may no longer be possible for anyone to qualify for SSDI. (This accomplishment began with researchers successfully using wired monkey brains to move computer cursors in about 2002.)
