Do you get unemployment insurance for part time work?

I’m currently doing a part time job with a small corporation. It started just as 20 hours a week and then got extended to 30 hours a week. Am I eligible to get any kind of unemployment insurance? Now as I have moved in a bigger city, I need some financial security.

If you went from full time to part time, you may be (but I doubt it). It differs from state to state but usually as long as you make less then a certain amount and/or work less then so many hours then you can claim the difference between what you made and what unemployment would pay. I'm betting anything more then 20 hours would disqualify you for that week. You need to check that states website for this information. They all have a FAQ page that will list this information.

Unemployment insurance benefits are not intended to do this.

They don't cover the move but they don't stop if you move. I can understand the OP's point of view. The OP wants steady employement so the OP needs to move. Nothing wrong with that. Probably a good move (no pun).

And if the OP has moved out of state, his benefits in the new state will be based on those of his former resident state -- both in terms of qualifying and amount of benefit available. Persons who work must subtract their current income from the value of UI benefits payable.

A person working 20-30 hours per week, even at a minimum wage of $150 to $220 per week will see that amount erased $-for-$ from the benefit, which means that the UI check, if not $0, will be close to $0.

So much for financial security courtesy of the government.
