Temporary vs long term

Does anyone have any idea how long the state of Pennsylvania keeps an employee on temporary disability, at what point does it become permanent. I was approved for social security disability with in 90 days of filing. At some point the other will become a permanent but not sure when, any ideas?

do you have a hand book or a retirement counselor? do you have a number that you can call and ask them your questions? There should be someone with your particular plan that you can call up and ask your questions and what your benefits entail. Many retirements with a disability benefit are set up with retirement counselors.

When I quit working I wasn't even gonna apply for this benefit, I did not realize that it was available to me, so I guess in te beginning I did not know what questions to ask. I have been through two yearly exams, my stuff is sent to a medical board and they decide if it continues or not, I don't think and my doctors state that I can not return to work, but I think at some point they do make it permanent, it is stressful worrying about it from year to year.

Never being in this situation you wouldn't know what questions to ask. People don't pay much attention to that benefit because they don't plan on using it. You don't plan on being disabled, sometimes things happen that lead us to situations like this. How many more exams will it take before a decision is made?

You got that right, I planned on working well into my retirement years, needless to say that retirement came early, I am greatful to have the benefit in place. Honestly it stinks not to have the mental stimulation of work everyday, but physically I could not do it any more. I am not real sure how many exams that I will need to go through, I have already done two, so maybe third time is a charm. My doctor keeps writing on my forms that it is permanent.

When it comes down to it and you need the benefit it's nice to have. Putting puzzles together will keep your mind strong. Hopefully you wont have to go through this much longer. Is your problem long term?

I have advanced lymes disease and fibromyalgia, so it is a permanent situation, a lot of joint and muscle pain. A lot of problems sleeping. Generally miserable all the time, like having the flu in your bones and muscles all the time.

I'm sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what you're going through. My sister has fibromyalgia and she is in pain all the time. She is always depressed. She says she goes to bed in pain and wakes up in pain, like its a never ending thing. I hope things work out for you. Do you have a plan b ?

No, no plan b, I try to stay busy, and try not to let it run my life but somedays there are no choice. I have sufficient income with social security disability and this state benefit, it is just a matter of staying mentally alive these days. That is tough too with all the medications that are prescribed. Both conditions make you feel the way your sister said, it can get down right intolerable at times.
