Home owner's Insurance, do you think rates will drop?

In the state of Florida the cost of insurance just keeps going up inspite of the new law that is in place to protect home owners in Florida from big insurance companys. The law called for insurance companys to reduce rates but it seams that the rates just keep going up. If you are one of the lucky ones to get insurance from some other company rather then Florida's Citizens Insurance, a insurance company of last resort for those come owners that can't get insurance from a big insurance company, you are vary lucky. Alot of the insurance companys have put in for a rate increase and like a child if they do not get it they just drop you. My question to you is, do you think that our government will get the insurance companys to drop rates? If it was up to you what would you do to force insurance companys to drop rates?

I cannot see the government getting insurance companies to drop rates, stall an increase perhaps.

Here are some things you can do to save on your home insurance:

- raise the deductable
- get online quotes and shop for the best rate
- notify your insurance company if you've installed an alarm system or made any other improvements to your house

yeah, I doubt prices are going to drop, but you can do something to pay less

a lot depends on things that you can't change unless you move to another house, but some other things can be done

as MichaelS said a higher deductible can lower your premium, you should evaluate how high is good for you

other things that influence the price are the presence of an alarm system (better if connected to the police, a fire detection system and also the distance from a fire station (not that you can change this)
other factors are smoker/non-smoker, who lives in the house etc...
