Many terms can be abbreviated as PPI. Therefore, you need to be little more explicit with your post. :D

Hi Cynthia, I think Tim wants to know about Payment Protection Insurance. Well, PPI or Payment Protection Insurance protects your loan repayments in case you miss out any installment due to loss of job, illness or any other reason. If you have taken out mortgage loan or credit card loan, PPI will help to keep your loan repayment schedule update. It saves your credit report from showing the late payments which may affect your credit score in the long run.

Tim, do correct me if I have got you wrong.

Tim you couldn't have got the 'twisted' up, and meant P.I.P. could you? Please let us know too in what context you have heard or saw this. Some people I have heard refer to PPI as 'personal property insurance' .

PPI (Payment Protection Insurance) usually is automatically added to the overall cost of a personal loan.

Payment Protection Insurance, abbreviated as PPI, is a kind of insurance that allows someone to pay certain debts when they lose income. It kicks in if they can't work because of illness, injury or unemployment.

Basically, it covers repayments that the borrower can't afford if he can't work.

It's offered alongside credit cards, loans or mortgages. The lender may make it sound like you must take it, but it is purely optional.

It's also known by the name Credit Insurance.

Yes there are so many terms that might be related to PPI, but in the insurance sector it is more widely used as Payment Protection Insurance.

These policies are to give you a cover on most kinds of personal debts such as Personal loan, credit card payments, other mortgages....
