Some times it can be a heck of a good buy...it depends on the amount of damage etc..and if you know how to repair it back to a safe vehicle...check first with your states DMV to see what is required of you to get it legally back on the road..most states require an inspection, and a fee for this inspection, also knowing of course that the vehicle title will always show 'branded' or salvage/prior salvage title etc..thus making it worth less should you go to resell it again later..

My brother bought a crashed truck, got one heck of a deal on it, repaired it for half the price of what he would have paid on the lot, so yeah, if you can fix it, you have a great bargain.

I know a few people, who bought a car at an auction. First of all, they really din't know anything about cars and, they were so excited about getting a car, I don't think they really cared. Anyway.to make a 'long story short', to get the car up 'to standard', for inspection, it cost them TWICE as much. Just be careful!! The 'cheap may come out expensive.'

Excellent point...a novice should never (IMO) purchase with the intent to rebuild a salvaged vehicle!

..I feel sorry for them. They ended up buying ANOTHER car, and the car, they bought at the auction, is sitting in their yard...they are hoping to sell it or use the car for parts.

true, you can run into big costs in repair, in my brothers case, he has a hobby garage where he rebuilds cars and paints them, does about everything to them. He races also and is constantly doing engine work to make it better, after a good night of racing he usually has some damage to fix the body. They get a little crazy out there.

In his case, he bought the truck off of a salvage yard and did the work to get it back on the road, I am not sure of the extent of the damage, just could see from the layman's eye, looked pretty severe to me, but he handled it, but like I said he is always fiddling with this stuff.

I do too...(feel sorry for them)...one of those life lessons that really stink....
