My friend was in an accident, the person that hit her had bald tires, that person was issued a fine for having bald tires and causing the accident. Just to let everyone know that the police do look at this, I never knew they did until now.

I could see that happening, it is your job to make sure that you have descent tires on your vehicle, would be like ignoring any other type of repair that could cause damage or an accident. This police officer must have really been paying attention.

Thanks, for sharing this piece of information with us. Yeah, we may have learnt many things, but still there are issues lying beyond our knowledge. Hence the importance of having communities like this. They serve the purpose to collecting and compiling the pieces of information lying scattered and present an overall picture before us.

Thanks,
Carol

Good that he was cited. The drivers are also responsible for the security of the fellow drivers. If he is driving his car in a condition that it may cause damages to others, he should also be responsible for the damages done.

Bald tires are really dangerous. The threads on the tires enable the tire to grip on the road. They worn-out with the use, hence, may not work with same the efficiency. Thus, the driver should have replaced those with the utmost priority.

I just never seen anyone be cited for this before, but you know the other day I seen a police officer pull someone over for having snow on there vehicle, I don't know if they were cited or not, but I know they were not allowed to move the vehicle until they removed all the snow, they were out there along the road scraping away.

I am glad to see that the police around here are paying more attention to the little things that cause the accidents, if the driver is not conscientious enough to pay attention to it, hit them in the wallet, that will open their eyes, the fine they pay could have been money towards new tires, LOL. Now they have to pay it and get tires anyway, besides the damage that was caused.

I wonder if an insurance company can refuse to pay a claim in a situation like this? I don't know that they would refuse to pay, but if the insured is aware that the vehicle is not safe why would they risk insuring this vehicle right?

Wow! This is the first I ever heard of this. Bt it sounds like a good policeman to notice this or take time to notice that. Bald tires can cause accidents and can very likely kill you.

August are you in the US? I hope you are and am thrilled to hear of police catching this...I know in Canada it is watched very very closely...I'd never heard of it here...although surely on the 'books' just not enforced...also the snow removal...ticks me off so bad to see someone drivng around with a little hole in the windshield to see through...for heavens sake! how lazy can you be!? Also good to hear the police stopped someone for that! RE: insurance not paying, certainly could use snow covered vehicles and bald tires at contributing factors (if not completely) to an accident liability decision.

I just have to say that it is about time, a lot of winter accidents are caused by crap like this, people not being able to see, bald tires. You see some vehicles that should not be legal in the summer let alone when the conditions are worse to drive on.

I think a lot of it has to do with the inspection stations that don't look at the vehicle and just write out the sticker, we used to have a few stations around here like that, but they are slowly but surely busting them and revoking the license to inspect.

They stopped doing inspections here. Not required anymore. I always drive my kids to school 5 miles away.In the winter I always have to scrape the windshield and I start the car a few minutes ahead to give the car time to warm up and thaw out the glass.I heard on tv something about spraying a mixture of water and white vinegar on the windshield to prevent icing and frost.Anyone heard of and know how much of each?
