Coffee Bean,
Although I respect your opinion, I have to completely disagree. Health Insurance or any insurance is based on spreading risk. If a smoker is reponsible for a higher premium based on their behavior, why do you feel that your behavior, ie unprotected sex, is anything outside of this philosophy? Also, health insurance is in the state it is in because of claims such as yours. Health insurance was not originally designed to cover all of your needs or to be a windfall for your decisions. It was to ensure that catastrophic events would not financially demolish people. In short, as a member of a group plan, I do not feel that it is my responsibility to share in the cost of your birth control. I hope that you do not take this personally. This has nothing to do with with my social beliefs, just pure economics. You have the right to do anything you choose within the confines of the law, however, do not assume that everyone should support it, financially or philosophically. |
