This topic is becoming a huge debate in the coming election especially between Clinton and Obama According to Bloomberg news Clinton is in favor of making it mandatory for Americans to purchase health-care insurance or apply for government subsides plans.

The problems with this as I see it. Many of us can not now afford even the health-care premiums that are offered by our employers in which they will often times pay a portion of the cost. Of course we can not afford to be without it either so many of us cut corners where we can in order to have some sort of health care insurance, at least some basic coverage.

Now as we enter a new presidency we are looking at one of the major topics of the election being health-care and apparently the average American worker who can hardly afford what is available now may be required by law to purchase health-care insurance.

Where does all this end?

The problem is during the debates I think a lot of them preach promises that they ultimately can not produce once they are elected. Healthcare is a huge issue, hopefully who ever is elected will address the issue and get something affordable in place so that everyone can have insurance. They need to make it more affordable to small companies so they can offer it as a benefit to their employees.

Yes, its all about negotiation in life. Get nearer to an election & you'll see the candidates arguing about the most common problems...problems that really have tougher solutions than it seems. Promises & will-to-win 'chairs' can do the rest. What we as the mere puppets can do is to vote for the better-of-the-worsts. Even now, we'd need to think which healthcare package would be 'better'...the existing-one or the 'negotiated-one' that is still on hold. Playboy88

Hi all, I believe all is easier said than done. We have no other choice but to accept what is left after our employer pays his share for us.

They need to make it more affordable to small companies so they can offer it as a benefit to their employees.

Making something more affordable is not based on anyone's whims. In order to make a program better you need to study & analyze the cores. It is yet to be seen who did that better. So, I'd rather say that we need to analyze things in our own way than leave it on someone else.
Lets do it now!

Maybe they could do it the way Canada does. I think I read where they deduct insurance from their taxes. That way everyone has insurance. But I know by the the time you pay untilities and all the insurnaces we are supposed to have most of us have nothing left. I really hope they don't try to force everyone to get it by law like the car insurance. Why can the US citizens not vote on these things?

From what I understand though is there not long waiting list for surgeries and stuff in the countries like canada that have these insurances that cover everybody?

I think some of these insurance companies should be giving up a little more than they are, blue cross blue shield has a chip program here in pa where they cover so many kids of working families and then some adults to depending on how much they are making. but yet

We have a major health organization that is buying up all the hospitals in the western part of the state and making record profit, the cities are giving them tax breaks, they donate to programs to even the stakes, why can't they be putting this money into health care for patience, if the city would give up the greed on the taxes and tell them to do it, they probably would.

They will tell them, you are a non profit and have them put what they would have paid in taxes into an activity program, millions of dollars, this could provide insurance for quite a few people.

Thats sounds good ,Goodnatured. Maybe you should run for president...lol You make more sense than any of them. I know there has to be a way around this problem. Maybe the rich could let go of some more to help...lol My kids were on a program last year that depends on your income. I pay health premiums to the state of 20 dollars a month for insurance coverage for my 2 kids. I also paid 1 or 2 dollars on every prescription they filled.

Yeah! Tax me more so my money can pay for insurance for people that don't work or live outside their means. There are people out there that need insurance and have valid reasons for not being able to pay for it. There are a lot of others that make bad decisions and is the reason for not being able to afford insurance. Do you need the new car, the TV, going out to eat, having kids or multiple kids for that matter.

For example:

My brother-in-law complains that he can't afford a house and has to live in his parents house with his wife and three kids. Yet he has a 3 year old SUV leased new and then had to purchase due to excess miles, two 42" plus TVs, new lap top, xbox 360, his wife's car was getting in bad shape so they purchased new one on a credit card!, blew through a 20K plus insurance settlement..... the example could go on. He has a good job as a loan officer at a large bank, but yet he can't afford a house? All were bad decisions that piled on top of one another starting with the second kid and moving forward. Make better decisions and determine what are needs and what are "wants". There is a big difference between the two.

Does your brother in-law have insurance? If he does thats all that matters as we don't have to buy your brother in-law a house with our taxes we are ok...lol Maybe your brother in-law likes living with his parents. That seems to be the case here.Does your sister enjoy it also?

There was just a big ad in the paper today about our govenor wanting to give more money to poor people by raising the cigarette taxes again. get real, pretty soon they will be twenty bucks a pack!!!!!!!!!! We were the hell does he think they will spend the money, on smokes and other unnecessary items.

I am really getting tired of paying the way here, Poor is almost becoming a choice, you know, today I need a total of 33 truck drivers, pay starts at $10 an hour with little or no experience, health insurance w/ eye and dental for self and family, 401k, sick, vacation and personal time and too many other perks to mention, job bonus and etc. You know they will even train people if they show up every day, you don't even have to have a commercial drivers license, they will train you. So tell me why my governor is not making these POOR people, if they meet the qualifications, which by the way is more or less, alive and breathing, APPLY for these jobs. I get so frustrated.

I talked to one of the county commissioners today, gave him the flyer and told him that when he is out there in the county hearing healthy people screaming there are not jobs, slap that flyer in their face. People need to take more responsibility for themselves and quit depending on my tax dollars to support them. These jobs both offer health care and I am sure there are a few able bodies out there in my county who are crying for healthcare and foodstamps.

My point was people need to be responsible, just as the above poster said. I was an adjuster at one time and would find people that would state that they did not have money to take care of maintenance on their property but they would have the big screen TV, new cars, electronics out the ying yang.... but no money to maintain their property? These things are wants not needs... try living within your means and not trying to keep up with your neighbor....

Also, first off it is my wife's brother and I think he likes not having any bills so he can buy all this crap. Second, don't speak too quick.... tax money may end up cleaning up this sub-prime mortgage mess.
