American Family Insurance Complaints

Guys..its truly interesting to see so many people have expressed their grievances at this fraud forum.

It needs a lot of guts to stand against frauds & I'm amazed to see a couple of you have really done that. I still remember the day (Dec, 2003) that my fiance went on to see the American Family Insurance representative & got a car insurance policy for us.

It was quite a shock for me when our car got stolen after that. American Family seemed quite proactive to meet the claim initials as we were to shift from that place the next day.

A couple of days later we were being consulted by their rep about the residue of our claim which according to them could not be met due my fiance's felony conviction since 2 decades. What they had to say was that American Family would not have covered him at all in case they had this information beforehand. They had given us an ultimatum that if he withdraws the claim he would be free or else they would seek legal help & see that he gets a sentence.

In mid-2004, my fiance got convicted of insurance scam. It was evident that the applications submitted by American Family Insurance to the attorney general were fraudulent. Once he recalled the signing procedure, he never remembered the agent asking him about his felony conviction. The agent must have submitted the paper works for which he had obtained my fiance's signature. The applications with us were left blank for those questions. My fiance was up with 1-6 for 2 folds of insurance fraud..I haven't read much about the american family insurance complaints but any advice would be of great help to people under such circumstances!

Thanx.. Amy_LV

I don't understand what you mean by this statement, please explain it better...What were his prior felony conviction(s) for?

It was evident that the applications submitted by Am. Fam. to the attorney general were fraudulent.

It must not have been quite so evident to the atty general right?

They had given us an ultimatum that if he withdraws the claim he would be free or else they would seek legal help & see that he gets a sentence.

I'm guessing he didn't just withdraw the claim right? What happened after that? What did he do rather than withdraw the claim?

Ok, he's in prison for insurance fraud? Is that right?

In mid-2004, my fiance got convicted of insurance scam

EXACTLY what was the 'scam' that he was charged with perpetrating? The not mentioning the prior conviction thing is for mis-rep, meaning they are contending he lied on the application for insurance, and had they had that information they would not have insured him, but that would've just caused them to void the policy, give him his premium back, and that would've been the end of that...There wouldn't have been any charges filed...I'm not saying he did it, but what exactly are they saying he did? Two counts? What are they ?

Doubt we can be of much assistance, but we need additional information (such as I have requested)...and if we cannot assist him, perhaps the information in this thread will be of great use to another...

Hi,
I'm quite sure that for such cases, the agents must have fake names. I was once working for the American Life as a prospective agent in Ohio & was too astonished to see how the agents in Ohio are not being able to earn their living. This had resulted in a lot of american family insurance complaints since then.

Even I was misinformed about the same right from the day1. The other agents all acknowledged fraudulent activities that American Iife indulges in. I'd even watched an agent grow weaker in health due to insufficient food consumption & hence decided to advice against anyone joining this company as an employee. Thanx for giving me another opportunity!

A good attorney and an appeal.
I'm not sure what type of advice you are looking for.

My friend..

let me tell you how the American Family Insurance kept on inquiring about the copies of applications that we had with us. Even though I had felt that those copies were lost or stolen but later on I managed to find them somehow. Since both of our applications were blank we had shown them to the attorney..who in turn carried them to the attorney general's office..it was quite evident that a black ink was used to fill up our applications wherein the queries associated with insurance fraud were left unanswered. On the other hand the application that was being submitted to the attorney general by AmFam had all those questions duly filled up & that too in black ink. Would you believe that? I'm sure if these practices carry on, then they would raise serious questions on the American Family Insurance settlement process. It would then be hard to cope with the american family insurance complaints.

What happened after that?

the attorney general had dismissed all charges..it was way back in 2004..as far I remember he had lawsuits against a couple of agencies..
Let me also tell you that he got originally convicted for a night club parking mess as a result of mafia devised hooliganism..& once prior for waving traffic coming from a wrong end of the signal as I remember it..

Hi Amy,

I hv this feeling that your husband probably filled up those papers which Am Fam had with them. May be he didn't come across those copies or may have misplaced them since they were being offered to him separately through a fax machine. That's why I believe its better to possess one single copy.

I'm sure he had signed only the papers that were with the agent.
One thing I can tell you is that..it would be really difficult for any agent to get a felon insured with American Family Insurance. If it is destined to get voided it would be sooner or later..I somehow get this feeling that the carrier was composed in itself...& was trying to offer you more time to get out of the fault...somehow it didn't work...only it got worse with your future. tx, 4mDeltagency

Would you believe that?

Yeah, I would unfortunately...I've been a part of several mis-rep claims, and have found the agents occasionally just shove the app in someones face, they sign it without filling in all the questions...I do know it happens...

But I still don't understand what he is actually serving time for now? What they (ins company) was able to prove him quity of? Wouldn't/couldn't be mis-rep... :?

You state that your fiance was "convicted" but then you state the charges were dropped. It's can't be both.

as far I remember he had lawsuits against a couple of agencies

What does the AG procecuting agencies have to do with all of this? I was under the impression that the AG was procecuting your fiance?

Let me also tell you that he got originally convicted for a night club parking mess as a result of mafia devised hooliganism..& once prior for waving traffic coming from a wrong end of the signal as I remember it..

...and then this. I guess we all have our bad days.

All american family insurance complaints get us a sense of complete insecurity..I don't think you'd ever come across anyone who they cared for or cooperated with..I've not come across a single of their customer reps who'd think or empathize with us or relate to our problems..I've this feeling as if they are relying on too much of their robotics..The customer rep I contacted was least bothered to understand why the claim had a difference of $100. They had stretched it for over an year & seem to stick to it for good. Cooljerk49

Hi..

They had stretched it for over an year & seem to stick to it for good.

Then how do they plan to get you back to your pre-cash condition?
