There is also a sliding scale fee in some doctors offices. They offer a lower payment on alot of things like blood work, visits and stuff like physicals to those who do not have insurance. A doctor visit may be $75 but if you have no insurance some will only charge a little over half of that amount.

These plans are the biggest crock of shxt I have ever seen....98% of the time, the person buying one has no idea the implications if something were to happen to them.

You do not need a discount card to get a discount.

Another a good alternative is the community walk in clinics, they are becoming more and more popular. I carry good insurance, but it is often times it is really hard to get a quick appointment, when you are sick, so myself and others that I work with have been using the walk in clinic, it is quick and they provide quality care. Many people who don't have insurance go there also, I am not real sure what the charge is if you don't have insurance, but if you do you only pay your copay.

Here's AmeriPlan's disclaimer:
The discount medical plans of AmeriPlan® offer a reduction in the cost of medical, dental, vision, pharmaceutical and chiropractic services. AmeriPlan® discount benefit programs are not insurance, nor are they an alternative to or substitution for insurance coverage. Since they are not health insurance, members must use AmeriPlan® providers and members are responsible for payment to the AmeriPlan® providers at point of service of discount healthcare fees incurred. If you currently have insurance, you should be aware that canceling that policy may make it difficult to later obtain coverage. AmeriPlan® recommends that you speak to your insurance agent or your company's insurance administrator before canceling any health insurance policy for any reason.

Please be aware that AmeriPlan is another alternative and solution for those who can't get health insurance, can't afford it or qualify etc. It's not the only solution but an option. Again, we are not insurance but an alternative. At least for me, when I'm talking to my members I never say that this is better than insurance or you should get rid of your current insurance (if you have it). I always say look at this as an added benefit. I always keep my members best interest in mind and misleading them is not someething that I do. People need to know facts and that's what I provide.

Anyone looking for a Discount Provider should do their research, make sure there are providers in their areas, ask questions, actually contact the providers to ensure they accept the discount card/company etc.

But like I mentioned before, AmeriPlan is a great option and offers a lot of services not just health and dental benefits plans either.

Just my 2 cents.
