My medical doctor JUST submitted a claim from Dec 2005 and of course the insurance denied it because I am no longer covered with them (I changed jobs and insurance in mid 2006)...but I would have been covered of the doctor submitted it promptly.
Can the doctor make me pay this, since they say it was a "computer glitch" and it was over 2 years ago? Why should I pay for their mistake?

| I would not pay for it, I would file a complaint with the doctors office and let them know that they should have filed this in a timely manner, what if the insurance company no longer exists, or like in your example you are not at that particular job anymore, his office should have known that there are time limits on billing and etc. 2 years is just way to long. |

Last time I looked health insurance coverage as triggered by the date of the treatment, not the date it was submited. The bill should have been covered. I'd call the insurance company and ask someone to review the information.
Can your Dr. make you pay for this? Yes... the service was rendered. I doubt the Dr. is under any legal obkigation to submit the bill to your carrier. |

I once got a health carrier to go back four years and pay a medical (er visit) on our daughter...no we didn't have that insurance any longer...tcope is right if the policy was in force on the date of service there is coverage...not saying you might not have to fight to get it paid, but you can get it paid!

Health Insurance is coverage is based on the date of service. If it was a PPO/HMO type plan and they were a network doctor you're better protected. Just about everywhere has timely filing rules. How much was it or if it's the principle of the thing that bothers you? They may have just sent a bill to see if you'll pay. If it were me I'd let them know that you weren't going to pay and if they ding your credit you can go to the next level too - court.

| TCope is correct. Coverage is based on the incurred date and should be paid by the carrier who was covering you at the time of service. However, there are time limits on filing in some cases. I would not pay the claim. I would start with an appeal to the insurance carrier. Second, I would simply ask the doctor to take the situation (their error) into consideration and write the expense off. If they refuse, call your state Better Business Bureau. Please keep us updated! I am interested to know what the Dr. will say. |

| Doctors' have a certain amount of time to file a claim, after which the insurance company will not pay and will advise you that you don't have to pay. This happened with my mother. |

My husband claimed I stole his nuggets too not long after we were married, he too reported it, but the police wouldn't do anything about it...he couldn't prove it... they told him confidently that their wives also were nugget stealers..They get a lot of calls about this especially from newly married men..Apparently there is no law against this..'if' the thief is a spouse...they further said they advise all husbands to keep their nuggets well hid while in the presense of their wives and only (metphorically) display them other places, like work, golf course, card games, watching football etc...anywhere that there are no women, to do so would risk severe damage or loss of their nuggets again.  per the police some husbands NEVER find their nuggets again..

| wow. err, i dont really understand this thing about nuggets. it isn't related to the topic in any way, is it? so i suppose this discussion is going off topic? i hope this issue is solved already, considering that it has been well over a year since the thread starter first posted. |
