Sometimes people get a health insurance from the office they worked.
If we have 2 health insurance plan from a different company, is it possible to claim from the two of them for one condition.

In example : If a person have a treatment for cancer is it possible to get the same full cover from those 2 insurance he/she apply ?

As far as i know there are some companies which ask for the original documents pertaining to the hospitals. But Prudential has some plans where one just need to submit the xerox copies in order to get the claim settled and thus i will suggest you to go for these types of health insurance policies.

Even if you take two to three health insurance policies from the same company (prudential here) still you will be entitled to the combined benefit of all the policies because you are paying for all the policies.

Although some are in profit (monetary) even due to health problems due to these kind of policies.

Depends on how the policy is written and the state where the policy is written. Some health policies (most) and an Other Coverage section that states how they will react if there is duplicate coverage. Some states have laws that mandate that both policies pay the claim (resulting in the insured being paid twice).

Hi Tcope,

Can you illuminate us more on this? Which states would allow the policy holder to receive claims from multiple health insurances for single medical reason?

Thanks,
Rupert

I’m sure that the insured can’t cash in from multiple health policies for the same medical condition. Normally, the insurers would determine which of them has the primary responsibility in covering the cost and will pay accordingly.

However, one may receive coverage from the secondary insurer if the primary policy exhausts its benefit limits.

i do not find its illegal to ask for the benefits from multiple insurance companies as long as i am paying premiums of all the insurance companies.

Yes i can only claim partial amount from one insurer and partial from other in order to keep both the policies floating.(aka working)

I don't think it's the same with all of them. I guess in most cases the one that's older would cover you for the claim. If there's any cause that has not been covered by the policy, it might be supported by the other one (if the latter has such provisions).

ofcourse you can. you paid both terms of insurance and they both responsible for the covered bills.
that's wey we are suggested to buy several more terms of insurance to prepare for any immesurable issues.

Amit, there you go again answering questions incorrectly. If you want to be helpful, ask questions. Don't answer them. I apologize for publicly calling you out like this, but I've never seen someone give so many incorrect answers.

With health insurance, there is almost always a clause about double coverage. One won't be able to collect on both policies.

One can collect on multiple policies with life and disability insurance.

I would have to agree w/ Insurance Expert... there are specific terms that health ins companies use to determine who is the "primary" insurer and the "secondary"...

I don't suggest you float the insurers as I'm sure that if is not illegal to make a profit from double recovery they will prosecute b/c it is against their TOS... One company I know for sure has a policy against that that is United Healthcare.

The purpose to get a 2nd health policy should be to have 100% coverage and whatever the "primary" doesn't cover then the secondary one will... not to make a profit...
