Hi,
What is a creditable coverage under HIPAA?
What are my rights under HIPAA?

Well, as the Hipaa rules guide us..if you're a member of a group health insurance plan, the 12 month period of exclusion may not be applicable for you. You'd probably be entitled to receive 'credit' for the enrollment period of your earlier plan. This period would then be excluded from your stipulated exclusion period.
Likewise, enjoying a 12-month continuous coverage would forgo the waiting period for your pre-existing health conditions. On a pro-rata basis you'd just need to wait for a period of 4 months if you had enjoyed the coverage for about 8 months.

Hi,
See..a 63 days gap of coverage (within your coverage period) would mean that your coverage is not continuous. Cobra insurance could be of some help to you at this juncture.
Cobra may let you experience the option of retaining your earlier health coverage, that you obtained from your former employer.

Since you're actually hitting upon the entire worth of coverage, Cobra might seem a bit costlier to you. But then think of the benefits that Cobra has to offer to you-(i) it allows you to carry on with the continuous coverage (ii) Sets you free of exclusion periods for pre-existing conditions.
