Has anyone been billed twice the copay amount by Humana?

Has anyone else had trouble being billed by Humana twice the amount you actually owe for your copay? I have consistently had problems with this, but didn't know if it was just me. Any insight into this problem would be great. Thanks :-)

Hey, are you getting charged for the same service? If so then you may need to contact their billing department. Often times its the billing department which makes mistakes in bills. Also you should get in touch with your agent immediately and inform him about this problem.

However, just check that you haven't received additional services which may add to the co-pay, like- if you ask the doctor to sign some forms for you he may charge the fee for which you'd be required to pay the co-pay.

OP, you may need to read the policy document once more to see what it states regarding charging the co-pays. If you are being charged wrongly you may have to complain with the Humana grievance cell. If this sorts the matter out well and good, but if not then you have to complaint against the company with the Commissioner of State Insurance Department.

We signed my parents in Humana prescription plan when we were required to find a plan. The first year was great, but since then we have had nothing but problems with them. Several times we got letters saying our payments were late(the monthly preminum was taken out of the bank electronically--go figure) and they absolutely are very hard to get answers from about anything! This year we told them we were going to another company and to stop payments from the checking account--which they did but are now sending us coupon books!

I have complained about it, and they always take the second charge off, but the fact that they have been consistently charging me double my co-pay amount worries me. I didn't know if anyone else has experienced this problem with Humana. It seems they are doing this purposefully in hopes I will mistakenly pay the amount on the bill rather than calling them on it. Any ideas about this?

hey do not hurriedly blame it to the humana for their service. just ask them any clarification first,it might be that the problem with the software which they are using (yes it has happened several times with me).

sometimes machine makes some mistake & we blame people & ruin the relations but if the problem is not with the software also then you need to take this issue very seriously.

It also may be an issue of in network or out of network coverage. Usually the copays double if you use an out of network provider. This may be the case...

That's a very good point Beatup....it could be a case of out-of-network services. OP, you may have to review the services that you have availed during the billing period. However, if they indeed are charging you wrongly, you should report them to the authority.

Network or out of network coverage could possibly be a issue with this case, but it is for very sure,if it would have been so then at least the company should have conveyed it to the policyholder about the situation. So,it would not have created misunderstanding in the mind of the policyholder.

I'm just guessing here, but I had this happen to a client. His Primary Care Physician co-pay was $15 and $30 for a Specialist. He was constantly being charged $30 every time he went to the doctor's office, and it was Humana's error. They had his doctor listed under a pain clinic (that shared an office building with his doctor) and as a result he was billed for a specialist visit each time.

Humana, just like any large company, is going to have their complaints and their problems. To their credit, not only did they fix the problem...but they also sent him a $45 refund for his last 3 doctor visits.

Another point to ponder is that it may actually be the service provider that is charging the wrong co-pay amount. If the provider charges too little, the insurance company will no doubt jump to it's feet...but if they charge too much - probably not. The co-pays change with a lot of these plans with some of them even changing annually, so the providers have a hard time near the beginning of the year. A call to customer service should fix the co-pay issue, but if it doesn't..feel free to contact me and I'll see if I can help!
