I am looking for individual health insurance and have been introduced to the biblical based shared ministries concept. Can you let me know the downside to this type of sharing of health care costs.

Ok...vtomac...before you take another step...

Are you referring to those societies that say things like "assurance instead of insurance" and "we have created this ministry to help our own" and things of that nature? If so, and I would especially watch out for one group in particular, and if this is what I think you're referring to, I would stay as far away from them as I possibly could. Again, this only applies if what I think you're thinking is accurate.

One of the most notable (and infamous) is an outfit out of Washington State known as the "Global Healings Society" run by some "minister" guy. Fascinating (scam) idea. The idea is to have all of the members pay "initiation fees" or something like that with the idea being that the "society" would be able to self-insure, so to speak, it's members.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA. Was I clear? If not, maybe this will do:

The funny part about the whole fascinating (scam) idea was the cool impossible to decipher fine print. One key area of the fine print, and quite intelligent in it's own seriously twisted way, was the "assurance condition" that stated that losses and claims would only be paid once "reserves have been met on an acceptable basis" or some hooey like that. In other words, they weren't going to pay any claims until their claims reserves (personal bank accounts) reached a certain level. If you had a loss before that happened? Well now, I guess that's just bummer for you!

Every single state that these jokers operated in has whacked the crap out of them and fined them thousands and thousands of dollars for unauthorized insurance practices.

Well...there ya go! Hope I didn't step on any toes! And remember, you always get what you pay for. :P

Just as a follow-up to my previous comment, I received a PM from a person who shall remain nameless (until I get honked off enough to out them) who implied that I was lying when I made the comments that I made in my post. First off, I don't lie. Secondly, if I don't know, I generally don't comment. Thirdly, you're an idiot.

Well, to the (for now) un-named illiterate (check your spelling, you goober) who sent me that PM, I freakin' DARE you to read the article in the following link and still tell me that I (pasted from your PM) "dont know nothing about thse minyteries that dont do nothing but helo peploe. You need to mind your own busines and tell the truth." Nice. Do you know what an apostrophe is? I'm just curious. They make spell check things these days, too. Grammar as well! Wow... an epiphany! (know that big word? Here's the link (to my friend- click on the pretty blue letters below here and it will take you to a magical place...the Place of Actual Knowledge!)

OK, let's see what you got, big boy.
