Most of my 'Clients' are the Elderly. A few of them can afford their Meds, Dr's appt, etc (however.....doing this on a VERY tight budget each month) and a few of them don't even have their Meds to take because they can't afford them. Some of the 'Clients' no longer 'qualify' for their Meds being taken care of......even on THEIR low income?! Their benfits are being cut, etc. However....I guess 18% of the Senior Citizens are better than none of them (the less of 'two evils'? I don't know).

Now, there's no one to think of the legal costs that have to be borne by the carrier.

There's no doubt that the plan could be expensive. How do we know the actual cost of a health care plan that's being run by the govt. ?

I guess that's a 'side' of it no one is really thinking about. ALOT of people are hoping Obama comes up with a 'good' Heathcare plan, but, they're probably not thinking of what they may have to pay for the plan. The gov is 'sweeping' so much 'under the rug' right now, they may NEVER say, until it's too late (lack of a better word..).

Thats just it you are not going to know. What I am waiting for is to see how much of this costs is going to fall back on the already over taxed middle class. Not only that I wonder how much of our own benefits we will lose. We have a pretty good health plan and if this new plan starts costing insurance companies and businesses more money then I would imagine they may raise deductibles and co pays for the ones insured already.
I think this health plan needs to be laid out in detail. Once it would pass you never know how much more later it will cost. Look at the income taxes. They recently wanted to raise them in my state. My view is once the government gets a hold of something it can get out of control.

This discussion is quite educative. I am living in USA for the past 7 years and it is frightening to stay here without health insurance.
In my view, any overhaul of health insurance will not be meaningful without addressing the prohibitive costs of health care. If a person goes to ER, the insurance company charges a $1000 upwards. The insurance companies will in turn charge us through premiums.
Why will a couple of pain killers administered in the hospital cost $10 when their market price is in cents?
Unless a thorough analysis is done to reduce the cost of health costs, reforming the health insurance does not have any meaning. There has to be reform on all fronts concerning the health care - tort reform, weeding out and punishing scammers, curtailing some social welfare measures etc.

The use of the word "socialism" is wholly inaccurate. Canada has government agencies that run that organize health care and people I know that live there do not feel they live in a socialist country.

Well I was jusr reading something the other day and it mentioned when the Carter administration has developed the Dept. of energy. that took place decades ago and it was put into place to lessen our dependence on foriegn oil..guess what it never did the job and it had decades to do it. If they can not handle that why would we want to put our health care system in their hands?

Absolutely! I think it was used by mkortz with a bit of sarcasm. With such discontent and disbelief in the air, it has got nothing to do with our real life needs.

I think there's a lot of folks misusing the term "socialism" here and mistaking it for a political type of system, like a democracy or dictatorship, etc. Socialism is an economic model and pretty much the opposite of capitalism.

When considering a socialist model, like the former Soviet block, the ideal is a utopian kind of society, where everybody owns everything...kind of. The problem is that governments get in the way every time. See previously mentioned USSR.

The idea of Canada being socialist is ludicrous. Not even gonna comment. When you consider the comments surrounding Obama and "socialism," they're generally centered on the healthcare debate (obviously) and the idea of the government running a plan that everyone will "own" so to speak. Frankly, another ludicrous (bordering on insane) idea.

While Canada's system is NOT "run" by the Canadian government (again, kind of) and intended to benefit all, answer me this- why do wealthy Canadians flock to the U.S. in droves to get treatment if their system is so wonderful? Why do you have doctors seeking employment here if there is so great? Why do people die waiting for treatment that would be rendered in the US?

Hmmmmm.
