Are the Supplemental Health Insurance policies really helpful for us?

The supplemental policies are for people who are not otherwise covered by the group health plans. You may also need to opt for special coverage if you have a disease which isn't covered under the health plans or may need special treatment.

The supplemental policy can offer you health coverage at the availability of additional cost even if you have pre-existing condition.

Thanks,

Here are some of the benefits one can avail from the supplemental health plan

  • The supplemental health policy offer coverage for diseases like- cancer and Alzheimer, which most of the health insurance providers don't cover under their health policy.

  • The supplemental policy allows the policy holder to receive monetary benefits for health conditions of heart attack and stroke. However, the recipient may have to wait for a certain period of time before the claim gets settled.

  • Even if your current health condition requires medical treatment, you can still receive the coverage from the supplemental health insurance policy by paying additional cost.

  • The supplemental health plans often covers medical expenses of injuries arising from an accident, i.e if your injuries required medical treatment the cost will be covered by the supplemental policy.

Hope it helps.

Jeremy, On your first comment about most health care providers not covering diseases I was wondering how can they deny it? I have BC/BS would they have to cover it or does it depend on your plan? Also how expensive is this supplemental coverage? I imagine that will probaly be do to a lot of factors. Cancer runs on my mothers side and I would hate (and God forbid) to ever get this disease and then find out I have no coverage for treatments. Can you PLEASE explain how this works?

They are indemnity plans. Means they pay a lump sum if a certain event occurs. The question is, at what point do you stop buying insurance. If your family has a history of cancer, maybe you should buy a policy.
