I thought I was buying health insurance. I found out after one day in the ER and one in the hospital that they were not going to pay my sky high bill. I have medical collection agencies hounding me and have contacted EVERY govt. agency I can think of...no results yet, maybe never. The "CEO" of Cinergy is a known scammer. I'm about to die of frustration and shame over being so stupid to have been fooled by them. At least I know now. Health insurance in this country is broken for sure. |

It might seem silly, but have you sought legal advice from an attorney? this really seems to be a cut and dried case of misrepresentation and/or fraud. Probably a few more serious crimes as well. Is it that they actually offer NO cover or that the cover they provide is more limited than that advertised?
Do you still have any of the promotional material they sent you? Policy wording? Cerificate of cover?
American Medical are clearly in trouble if NY regulators are after them.
Three quick suggestions:
1. Get in contact with the NY State regulators and ask for advice, even though they are not in your state they should be able to point you in the right direction.
2. Do a little investigation into insurance law specialists in your area and see if you can get a free consult. you wont be the only one in this situation - I smell a Class Action suit.
3. Not to sound callous, but get yourself some more reliable medical insurance from someone reputable. If you want a suggestion I'd say you really should be comparing a bunch of different policies from different providers, so here's the pitch - www.cheapest-insurance.info - don't let the basic website design fool you, you'll get good quotes from reputable carriers.
Seriously though, I can't see you having no legal recourse here. I suspect you just need to get in front of a good lawyer and you'll have a serious case. Simply put, insurance regulators cannot allow a carrier to oppertate in this manner or ti'll encourage more similar cases and undermine confidence in the industry.

I paid for "health insurance" from a company called Cinergy. It turns out Cinergy is just an advertising company. The underwriter is Am. Health and Life Insurance Co. (AMLIC) who are not licenced to operate in CA amongst other states. The insurance claims if they are significant are not paid.
