My parents' garage caught on fire. I don't live there now, but was storing many of me and my boyfriend's items there. My parents are refusing to pay us any insurance money. Do I have any legal rights?

Where your parents responsible for the fire? If not, you need to carry your own insurance on the items. Your parents should not claim your items under their own policy if they did not own the items. That would be boarderline insurance fraud (it is fraud but it's hard to prove).

I'd agree with Tcope, if its not arson your parents aren't legally responsible for compensating you for the loss.
I guess those items weren't listed in your parent's policy either. Threfore, if not they compensate you out of goodness, it's be difficult for you to get the claim from them since the insurance company won't pay.

From your case, it is clear that you are not liable to have any insurance benefits unless you have insured your items. If they got insurance on whatever was there in the garage, better talk to your parents.

well, for your case, you should be the rightful owner of your items right? so firstly, was the fire caused by your parents? if it is, then you have the legal rights to claim insurance from them.
otherwise, you will not get any money unless you have personally insured your items. alternatively, if your parents insured your items for whatever reasons, then you can file a claim for the items lost in the fire.
