What are the things that home insurance doesn't cover?

I do understand that there are certain things that will not be covered under my HO insurance. If there's any damage caused due to termite infestation then I should be held liable for that. HO insurance will not cover it. Are there any other consequences that will not be covered under HO insurance?

Yes, too many to mention. Also, it differs from state to state and policy to policy.

Hey tcope, I'd agree that it varies from one state to another and also depends on the nature of the policy benefits and exclusions. At the same time, I feel you're the best person to suggest a few such possibilities (generally) wherein the OP may not find a suitable coverage.

There are nine states in the US that allow the insurers not to offer terrorism coverage under their HO policies. But, as we see in Cali it depends on the strength of the company. It varies accordingly.

Some forms of insurance are known as "ALL RISK" -- they cover everything EXCEPT what is named as an exclusion. The number of exclusions will vary from one policy to another and from one company to another. If something is excluded, it can often be added back in by paying for an ENDORSEMENT from the insurer.

Asking what else is "excluded" is far too broad a question. If you have specific things in mind, ask about them. Or read your contract to see what is and is not covered. That's always Rule #1. Rule #2 is call the insurance company to make sure you have a valid policy.

Some of the insurers will cover you for mold, while a majority of them will not cover you for this. Earlier mold used to be a pretty common thing that got covered under all policies. A large no. of claims in the recent past have led to this denial.

Your home owners insurance may fall short of covering you under circumstances that you own 2-3 computers. You'd need to be very careful in the event you're starting a home business. It's always better that you clarify your doubts with an agent, before you sign up.

I think most of the policies also do not pay for damages due to calamities like earth quake, hurricane, land slide and floods.

hurricane

Mostly, goody, hurricanes are made up of strong winds, and WIND DAMAGE is always covered as a primary cause of loss in a homeowner's policy.

Most homeowners insurance policies are based on the HO 3 form. Although there are state variations, the coverage is substantially the same all over the US.

You may want to do a Google search for a "coverage on a homeowners HO 3 policy" or something similar.

A homeowners policy will not cover floods.
