| An ice storm caused damage to two flat sections of my roof. My insurance company had me get a quote from a local contractor. They both met at house to look over the damage. The adjuster gave me about 1k less in money that the contractor quoted. So I have a check for about 2500.00 from the insurance company and get another 900.00 when the job is complete. The contractor quoted 4300.00 to do the job. Well my uncle said he would do the job for free minus costs of parts and materials. Would I be doing something wrong by not using the contractor who did the original quote? I cant afford to pay the difference myself between the two. |

| Yep, it's your money. It doesn't matter that you found someone do it the job cheaper. |

| What about the balance of money that was given by the insurance company. I have done all repairs and there is a chunck leftover. Also do I need to contact them and let them know the job was complete? He said that when they start the jobs to let him know and he would send the additional 900 bucks, but I dont need it. |

The insurance company needs to pay you the reasonable cost to repair the roof (basically). If you can have it done for less, great.
I'd recommend that you notify your carrier that the repairs were done so that they will send you the remaining amount. If you don't need it... save it to pay for a possible rate increase or pay it to your uncle for his hard work. At least take him to a nice restaurant for dinner. |
