They won't exclude coverage due to the length of time you've had the policy but I'm betting they will take a _hard_ look at the claim. I'd say this due to the age of the policy and the items stolen. If all the items were taken, they would have need to load up a semi truck to get it all! It's not like they could just walk in and walk out with all of those items.

It's also odd that the police did not want any information on the items. What if they are recovered? What good is them coming out if they are not going to list the stolen items? What are they being paid for? I can see that they won't actively look for the items but what if they are recovered some place.

All of the things above are HUGE red flags so don't be surprised if they ask a lot of questions and probably obtain an examination under oath.

Will they non-renew the policy? Perhaps. No know can know. But they won't cancel it (which is different then non-renewing).

It's up to you if you want to complain about the police officer. Personally, Id think the least they could do for the money I'm paying in taxes is put a list of stolen items on their report. If I was the adjuster and saw that the police report did not have all the items listed, I'd require you to have this done. It preserves my right of recovery against anyone the police find with these items. Also, it shows me that you are willing to officially tell the police that these items were stolen. If they were not, you'd be facing some serious legal issues. This goes a long way to show the adjuster that you are truthful about the theft.

Pictures of the items will help and perhaps the info from your neighbor.

I am an allstate agent this is the first time I have ever seen this board. But I have recently written a policy that the samething happened. It was about a week after the effective date when numerous items were stolen. They ended up paying the claim but they did investigate. you better have either reciepts or CC statements showing the recent purchases as you say. everything better not have been paid for in cash, also they are only going to pay up to the policy limits minus the deductiable.

Hey Allsatte, great that you have dropped in to this thread. Why don't you join us? I'm sure that you can be of immense help to our members and visitors.

And, to the OP, surely that your claim won't get denied if its a real misfortune. And as Tcope has said, the carrier is going to look into the matter very hard since its very new policy to ring the bell of fraud, but your claim will be paid if its authentic. Don't worry and turn the claim to your insurer. Hope you'll be alright.

OP you need to get this claim filed with allstate NOW...there is little doubt this claim (due to the facts of loss and your tenure with the company) will be awhile getting settled, not 'promptly' reporting the claim is another red flag..so get on that today!

I doubt the claim will be denied, but as Tcope has said, there will likely be a long investigation...including an EUO...but you have nothing to worry about just tell the truth...but get that claim filed now!

Well, that may depend upon the business policies of the insurance company. However, even though there is a rate change its not due until the next renewal. So, you can sleep well for the coming nights (till the renewal date) without fearing rate hike.

Happy New Year!!!

Check with your agent, but I'd guess more than likely...also check to see if a claim this early could cause a non-renewal.
