This year I have been telling my daughter I will not help her sell this stuff. They have a family fun night and it is games and fun for the whole fail my .I feel bad that there are some kids who aren't able to go maybe because their parents can't afford it or they are busy. They always have these inflatables and my daughter loves playing on them.If they sell 50 raffle tickets they get an arm band to play on them all night for free. One year i helped my daughter do this ,I thought what the heck the arm band costs 10.00. But then this year no one wanted to buy so I said I wasn't doing it anymore. I bought the arm band myself. The school makes a killing off this one affair every year. They say if they make enough that Will be their only fundraiser that year.Funny it never is. They have Xmas store ,book sales 2 times a year. They have box tops for education.Thats OK cause it does not involve selling and all kids can participate.I throw the stuff away anymore as it comes in my door.Petition is a good idea but I don't really know how many people agree with me .Like you said Goodnatured.we could suffer the results. The people who enjoy this sort of thing would persecute us and say we don't want the kids to have more for the school. I will never forget the year my daughter had no spelling book .But the library bought a wide screen tv.

I'm not blaming the teachers at all...I blame whomever came up with this scam...and I'm betting it was the businesses owners of all this junk....I just think, and have told all the neices, nephews, etc....''Aunt Odie'' will help YOU if you have trip or something you want to do, but will not be buying this junk, for general purposes (computers for the class room, or whatever)...I will contribute to them only for things that they want to do...and directly to them...as I said, by me giving the neice 20 bucks directly was the same as if she'd sold like 20 candles! Just my take on it...I know there are more people that think the way we all do, than the other way! ha ha.....And I don't know about you all but the taxes we pay for the school district in my area are out of site!

Our school taxes are crazy too, seems like we never get a break there, they keep raising them, the just had an add in the paper about some increase. Thing is your income don't increase to match or offset these increases.

True,The school my kids go to also will revoke their license or permit if their grades are failing. They say it is to keep kids in school but sounds like maybe a reason to quit school. They get taxes and the county funds i think that should be enough .Its for all the extras they think they need.Like the wide screen tv in the library .They should have bought spelling books instead.I remember when I first noticed on Valentines day parents were bring to school and leaving at the office Valentine gifts. My daughter came home feeling left out .They used to have these papers that all the kids got where you could order books and things. Then after they came in the teachers gave them out at school and the kids whose parents could not afford them sat feeling left out.I take the stand that if it isn't something all the kids can participate in or receive then it should not be done at school.

they should not hand them out in class, they should have to pick up their orders at the office or they could even send them to thier homes.

Thats the way some of us would handle it as to the kids not feelings left out.But schools are not sensitive to these matters .After all it isn't their children being left out. I guess I notice this stuff because when I was going to school I was the one left out. Its like one child eating candy and no giving the others any .Thats how I look at it.

I don't think we will ever get away from companies using kids to make a profit, it is sad but true. Just about any activity from school to scouts, as long as fundraising is involved, there will be money rackets where they take advantage of kids and the programs that they are involved in.

Why can't the handle the sells at school instead of sending kids home with this crap for us parents to deal with.We pay our school taxes and contribute in other ways(box tops for education).I don't blame the teachers. They say they spend all this money to buy stuff for the class room but they have class room fees to cover that. Did you ever wonder what happens to all the supplies we send every year? All the wet wipes and pencils and stuff?

unfortunately you can't really control that either, teachers taking from the kids, now what is up with that. They make enough money that they could buy their own for home, if not they need to be coming to the forums to make a few bucks to buy themselves some. Hell, we may even donate a buck or two to them.

Do the teachers in your family see the others taking them home Lori?

I agree, unfortunately they are probably not going to stop pushing this crap. However, you don't have to buy it, so don't support it, don't buy it, like Lori said, donate directly to the kid that you want to benefit for the fundraiser, then the company will not get the money anyway. Maybe they will slow down this racket anyway or look for different ways to fundraise.

I was always a fan of the community even fundraisers. I would rather pay for a car wash than I would a pack of wrapping paper that I can purchase some where for half the price. The 5 dollar car wash is an idea that works and these days it is a bargain. So if you have any input at all in what types of fundraisers that your kids do, maybe you can suggest something like that. The families can get involved in this too.

Wow, That is so wrong! The teachers taking them home. They don't realize how strained some budgets are buying that stuff. I stopped paying class fees a long while back. I mean after we buy all the supplies then they want a class room fee?? Whats up with that. What they need is a box on the teachers deask for donations then the ones who can give will give and hepls out the ones who can't.The left over supplies should carry over for next year to help out the more needy students. I remember when i went to grade school. They had a fee for work books. No fee no work book.My dad was a tennent farmer or share cropper. I was always the last one to get my work book so i was always behind. My sister quit 12 grade cause she had no money for the text books .Back then you had to buy your own.Mostly forn the graduating students. Some had pages all torn out of them.

I have never heard of any of this room fee or paying for your own books, Pennsylvania must be different. The only thing that kids have to pay for here is lunch if they don't qualify for free lunch. I think that is a shame that they don't provide the materials for education. Guess I should feel lucky that my tax dollars are being used for a good thing then if our kids are not paying for these supplies.

what is the school district or information, would a group of kids here be able to send a care package to the school, supplies and stuff, like what kinds of things do the kids have to purchase? Pencils, tablets, etc. What do they have to buy, not what they want to buy? Just curious to see if we can get something together.

The class every year has a list specific to that class and grade. Its different most years .It usually includes wet wipes ,tissues, pencils or pens or both .certain types of folders specific to each class and notebooks ,Markers the list goes on .I can't remember everything .It does get smaller in the middle grades.Back packs too. Then they have a class room fee really don't understand what thats for. The year my son graduated I had to pay that fee for his senior year before he could graduate. It even continues through high school .Fees to join clubs.I tell you the schools here will break you! When all 3 were in school I think I was paying like 14.00 a week for school lunches.Funny I never thought that there were schools that were not like that. The schools in SC had a supplies list but no class room fees. They did have a couple of fundraisers but not like the many they have here.

Not sure what this question means....do you mean do they see other teachers taking all the surplus home at the end of the year? I guess...really though, I understand they can't give it back...I mean who gets the three boxes of tissue that are left you know?

As for fees...oh my gosh! Now we didn't have to pay in grade school (other than outside activities)...but high school! holy moly! When I went think it cost my folks oh, maybe 40 bucks or so...our youngest graduated in 2000, I think it cost us about 150 to just register for school! That's not counting another 100 to play football, senior pictures and everything else...that was just locker, books, activity tickets etc...

It's a stinkin' racket...don't even get me started on college and all the stuff we had to pay when the daughter went to school...!
