I worked for a personal injury law firm for 20 years, my duties were handling auto claims i worked with adjusters, doctors, imaging centers and also settled claims. I am now unemployed and am considering becoming an licensed adjusted and I am not sure what direction to take. I also have 12 years experience as a private investigator and was a licensed investigator at one time what advice can you offer?

Welcome to the community first off...

What state are you in and does that state (for sure) require licensing? Do you want to work for a company or as an independent? Personally I think you might want to look at the independents first, they would have a wide variety of claims...and actually with your back ground I think work comp adjuster might be a good target for you...or maybe an SIU (special investigation unit of a carrier)...there are many sites, one that caters to ins jobs is greatinsurancejobs.com you might check that site, and of course many others...like hot jobs, etc...be for warned though most (larger companys anyway) have put a hiring freeze on their claims dept...

Very valuable information, indeed. Lori, you truly are an asset to this community.

Tlsedita, what lori has suggested is very accurate. You have the right exposure that is required for an adjuster.

However, licensing requirements are not the same in all the states, some may require you to obtain license even if you operate as an independent adjuster, such as Oklahoma. Pls, let us know the state where you are residing. It would help us in becoming more specific with our responses.

Prior to becoming an agent - I handled claims adjusting and worked as a manager for a claims department. With your private investigation license and experience - Special Investigations is where I would start! Good suggestions by Lori! Cheers!
