PostPosted: Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:01 pm   Post subject: I failed my state exam PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone,

I have taken the required class at prelicensetraining.com including the study hull which has bunch of study questions and answers to get my P&C license (for California), however I failed the test, the test was nothing like what I had studied...

What do I do?
Are there any other better classes I can take?

I have just found out that some companies sponsor you to get your license, can I still do that? or since I have started on my own I have to finish it on my own?

what company should I start out with; I like to start with Auto insurance.

my background is in mortgages sales and secondary marking of mortgages so I do not have any experience in insurance and I am very excited to learn about it and start my new career...

Sorry for the long questions, any help would be greatly appreciated...

First of all, of all the insurance exams I have taken, the P&C exam is the most difficult. I barely squeaked(?) by myself.

I would not take the pre-licensing training online, but in an actual classroom setting, where you can ask questions in the areas you don't understand.

Most states change these insurance exams regularly and the study courses online just do not keep up.

I believe California requires 20 hours of pre-licensing training and if you will go the the CA Dept of Insurance, you will find many courses available in different areas of CA.

There are many companies who will help you chart your course, like Allstate, State Farm, or an independent agency in your area. Yes, I can see it coming, there are good and bad things which can be said about any insurance company, but your priority is to get your license, nothing else right now.

The most important thing about taking an insurance exam is to completely understand the question. A "sometimes" or "never" thrown in the middle of the question will change what we think the answer should be.

California will allow you to schedule your re-take examination online.

Just Google - "Ins Dept CA" and go the "Agents/Brokers" section.

Good Luck.

Ins Maze don't ALL captive agents have to go thru 'that' companies courses THEN take their licensing tests? I remember when I worked for another mulitline company every time I was at the training facility it was chuck full of agents, new ones mostly and none of them (as yet) had their licenses, but were completing their class work and (I assume) taking tests at the end of the courses.

That sounds reasonable and the way that things would be done Lori, roy have you walked into any offices and had a face to face with an agent in your area. Just curious, I would think if you did that you could take notes on the proper path to take to get your license. Are there any insurance companies near you where you could walk in and do this? As Lori mentioned above, if they put you through the training you may be able to obtain your license through them. goodluck, hope you find the information that you need.

Hello Roy,
There are actually schools in California like this one (www.insuranceschoolofcv.com) in Modesto that take you through the licensing process and are extremely helpful.
Harry and Helen Smulson run this particular school and I know that agents come from all over the state to participate in their classes.
If you need any more information, send me a message.
Mark

40 Hours of pre Licensing 12 Hours of Ethics is required to take the test. if you do not know that you need to study, you won't pass if you do not know that. Try A.D. Banker. Google that. Make sure if you do A.D. Banker to not only take the pre licensing class but take the 1 day cram course too. I am taking my test tomorrow everyone pray for me. I am super nervous and REALLy REALLY want to pass.
