New Insurance Agent Experiences

by Insurance Maze » Thu Feb 07, 2008 11:03 pm

Are there any brand new insurance agents out there?

It would be an excellent idea to create a blog and write about all of the experiences a person goes through in becoming and insurance agent and what happens after the license exam is completed successfully.

I would help in any way that I can.

I'm on it Maze, starting to set it up now.

Great blog on setting up! Hope I can help new agents from falling in all of the holes that my friends and I fell in ouselves. After two years I'm the only one left in the biz ot of 10 of us that started together. I saw many more come and go than that along the way.

Its a harsh learning curve and even worse if you dont have a clue...

Hey beatuplunchbox and welcome to the community.

I'm glad you are blogging on "insurance agent experiences".
Seems we get a lot of questions here from those who are just getting into the insurance business or thinking about it.

My experience has been that about 1 in 10 actually become successful insurance agents. Some people enter the business for the wrong reasons or think that it is just a "piece of cake".

If I can help you with your blog, just let me know.

I have created a "Blogging Blog" which may be of help to you . . .

Thanks Maze, I have been going step by step from your directions on your blog.

I have got the catergories set up and am working on getting posts done in all the catergories. I am starting out with several posts on my own experiences and will be packing the catergories full of useful information for new agents over the next two weeks before adding the adsense to the pages.

I also want to set up the pages so that the content will be easy to navigate and easy to understand and go from there to have a questions and answers page also.

I want to help more new agents survive and prosper. After two years in the biz I am finally at the point that I know I'm here to stay and enjoying it.

Thanks so much for your help

I am new to the P&C biz and will most likely be here for a while. So far I'm targetting commercial accounts and have had some success as I am targetting many companies I worked with from my previous advertising life. I am also doing the Marketing for the company I am with so let me know if I can help in any way. Also, if you have any advice about pitfalls or wins for the P&C personal and commercial end I am all ears.

Hey Slappy!
Welcome to this forum, I just joined myself but have been reading posts here for a while to get good information on running my health insurance business. I have just started working on a blog for new health(and life) agents but I have a very limited knowledge of the P&C business.

I do know it presents a whole different set of challenges to its new agents and I think it would be cool if you woul set up a blog to let new P&C agents see the challenges you face and how you overcome them.

I have found there is a lack of decent mentors in the insurance biz in general. Maybe this is due to the high turnover in the industry that no one wants to invest too much time in a new agent because there is such a high chance that they won't be there tomorrow. (Seems like the attitude my dad saw in the armed forces seving during the Vietnam era)

Check out the how to blog blog that Maze has got listed. I have very little experience blogging but the info there has got mine coming together nicely.

I'm sure you already understand that property and casualty insurance, especially commercial lines, is a brand new experience, completely different from any other form of insurance.

I would advise you to stay away from a lot of "start-up" businesses. First of all, you will probably have to go through a surplus lines carrier, and the business retention on these accounts is not usually good.

Thanks, beatuplunchbox and I totally agree. We need more lines of insurance in discussion here, frankly it gets a little old just reading posts about "auto accidents". We need help in providing more useful information about home insurance, life insurance, business insurance, etc.

Your blog could be "Property Insurance"; "Commercial Insurance"; or something on that order.

If you are new to blogging, you may find some useful information here:

Thank you both. I will look at setting up a blog considering I will be working with all Auto, Home, and Commercial. I am not yet licensed in Life but down the line that will be in the works. The fun part is that a company we work with even carries Wedding Insurance/Event so I am looking at growing that off the bat because it will hopefully lead into other lines. I'll work on that blog and hopefully have it up by the end of next week. Thanks.

Go ahead and get your blog rolling, after all it's free.

My advice would be not to wait too long in getting the life license. As you are writing the auto and home, you are in an excellent position to conduct a complete insurance review.
