Actually, I heard there was a rate increase for Allstate. Where are you going to be appointed? Some of the states for Allstate are not writing property at this time either.

I would agree with Gary.

The biggest "issue" Insurance Agents face are themselves.

In this industry, I believe that self motivation plays an important role for your success. No one can motivate you to work but your self.

Just exactly who is stopping any agent from contacting people regarding their products and related services?

Nobody,.... but the agent.

Gary is right. You have the choice to call your prospect or just stay in one corner waiting for people to ask you about your product. No one can make an agent successful but only himself.

In order to be successful in this business, I think the first issue that you need to face is your self. Be motivated and reach for your goals.

Well insurance baby, obviously you are conducting some survey so that you can make an informed decision as to whether to pursue the career path of an actury since you major in actuarial science or to venture into sales business either as captive or independant agent.

No matter what your choice is going to be, I hope you will love what you do.

If we enjoy what we do, we will give our best. It is your passion that fuels your determination to overcome all the challenges you face in your job or business.

Best wishes.

I talked to many an independent agent and decided to go captive. Fortunately I was able to purchase an agency that was successful, good retention and had an excellent staff. A very seamless transition.

I have had several independent agents speak with me about become a captive agent with my company (in fact, our company offers agent a decent bonus for recruiting - I cashed in a few times Laughing )

You have to look at things with a very business-like approach. Cash flow, ability to pay bills, find a good location, advertising, etc. Even purchashing office furniture, computers, phone lines, - a lot of initial expenses that you won't have if you go captive.

But the advantage of independent is you really are your own boss. That appeals to many people. I think I have the best of both worlds. Yes, I am captive (have to be open certain hours, can only write one company, etc) but they also provide a lot of advertising that would be cost prohibitive if I tried to do the same. Of course, I do have the day to day decision making, choose additional advertising, and as long as I'm doing my job, they leave me alone (lol).

I can talk with you about my companies specifics if you would like - just shoot me a message.
