I'm going to changing career paths, and seriously looking at entering the insurance field. I have some questions: what would be a good company to work for, that has salary+top commission? what's the best area to get into, i.e. P&C, Life & health etc. I have had some sales experience in the past. I'm in the Chicago area. Any suggestions are welcomed and needed.
thx

You had just mentioned that you wanna enter the insurance industry, but then in order to comment on your career, we'd need to know a bit more about your qualifications. Hope you know, that in order to get the license for any branch of insurance, you'd need to go through a stringent evaluation process. Please let us know more about your stance. Hi everyone,
It is true that qualifications are important to guide you to this profession...but since the OP has mentioned that he already has some sales-experience...why don't we ask him about what sort of exposure he has..wouldn't it be better?
Awaiting feedbks.

hey therr..hope you are aware of the requirements to this profession!
Your ability to analyse the coverage details & comprehend the underwriting rules are an absolute necessity. But in a Grade-A city like Chicago I believe life insurance could already be an established service in itself & hence could offer you better opportunities for growth that P&C. See, if the others have anything more to say in this regard.
Thanks,

First, I am familiar with the requirments. At the risk of dating myself; I did get my insur lic in 1984, I went to work with a company that, at the time was called "A.L. Williams"; now DBA Primarica Financial. If any of you familiar with them, you know they are an MLM (Multi Level Marketing) company.
I worked with them for about six months and, due to my family situation (they wanted to eat) I had to get a salaried job.
So now my kids are grown and gone, my wife makes good money; so, with her blessing, I'm ready to get in a career that I would like to do.
Their are a couple companies I've heard from: United American Insurance, and Senior Healthcare Consultants. I'm not to impressed with SHC (cost too much to work there), and I'm still checking out UAI.
I personally enjoy selling L&H and split deals with various P&C Agents, so I'd recommend you go down that path first. The problem arises in finding a company that will pay you a base + commission, since most of the time you will be on 100% commission. Nationwide, StateFarm, etc. each have their own regimens, but you won't have the flexibility of being independent.
I have not worked with SHC, although I've heard mixed reviews on their options. The question you have to ask yourself is, "Do I want to be a small business owner or employee?"
Once you're able to figure out where you're going research the local agencies and see if anybody is hiring. _________________ You can catch me here: insurancesaleslibrary.blogspot.com
Prosale; Whew!! At least I don't have to warn you about staying away from Primerica (with an "E"). You would also be well advised to stay clear of the Torchmark companies, including American Income Life and United American. I don't another Texas-based company called Americo either.
Allianz, AIG, and Aviva have great products and a generous pay plan. _________________ Please feel free to go to my website at www.markcolbert.com or, if you have a specific question, you can email me directly.
