I’ll be joining a new tele-sales job soon. I’ll need to generate insurance leads from a given database. Can I get some cold calling tips?

I'd often question my mind about the feasibility of Cold calling in today's world. More often we'd come across a list of phone numbers that is outdated. Then there's this DNC problem across many of our states.

You have to get your points at your finger tips. You have to prepare yourself on how to handle the contact person as well as the gate keeper. You may not discuss your main objective with the gatekeeper.

My friend, the ultimate thing is your knowledge. If you have the right product knowledge then that would be reflected in your sales pitch. It would certainly add to your confidence.

Your prospective customers might fall into different categories.
You must pick and choose features that you're going to offer to them. If you're selling a family benefits program to a senior citizen make sure you choose the 'warranty benefit' than the 'discount on movie tickets'. Movie tickets would rather go well with an younger guy.

I guess the first 30 seconds of your conversation with the client is all you have to impress him. Don't waste it, rather make the most of it. Remember, it's not always regarding "what you're selling". Sometimes it's about "how you're going after it". Make sure that you acknowledge your client's time.
