DO NOT use Exam FX from ABLE to prepare for your state licensing "Life and Health" exam. The course is full of mistakes and the material has not been updated since 2006. I called day and night for 9 days to try and get a customer support rep to help me out with an issue I was having with the course. It took them 10 days to call me back. They have one person that handles their customer support. The course is unprofessional and jumps around. The state exam questions looked nothing like their practice exam questions and the course did not cover half of the material on the state exam.

Welcome to my world of fixing ExamFX errors and lack of currency. Crying or Very sad

For P&C I used a combination of Insurance Schools, Inc. (great exam simulators) and the CD/exam simulator that came with the P&C Exam Cram book (ordered the Exam Cram book from Amazon). I passed the test, first try. I did work hard though; I analyzed each question I got wrong.

I am doing an "internship" at an insurance office and I need to get licensed within the next few weeks or so. I have been told that exam FX is really good, but from the comments above I now have doubts.

I really need a program that will assist me in all areas, not just memorizing answers.

I am taking the test for P&C in Missouri.

Any advice? Thanks sooo much!

I have been an insurance sales manager for 14 years. Exam fx is considered by most in the insurance indusrty to be average to below average solution for studying insurance material. When I sent my recruits through Exam fx we had about a 27% pass rate. They advetise a low price but they nickle & dime you to death with add ons to jack the price up. Nobody passes with their basic low cost package, you have to spend an extra $100 to get their books and exam simulator. I have switched to some other online options and had my recruit pass rate go up to 76%. Be careful with Exam fx they don't seem to put a lot of effort into putting out a good product. People who like it haven't seen the other options out there.

Do Not Use This Course. It is not updated, and after spending over 100 hours studying on their system I couldn't pass, P&C. I noticed the quizzes and the simulated exam had the same questions but some had different answers! Some answers were just wrong! It was awful! I am using Kaplan now, and find that it is much more understandable and I feel confident to pass. I have a series 7, 66, life and health, and have had the p&c license before, but using this system really screwed things up! As you are studying, the system will boot you out if you take too long taking notes, and many tested items were not even mentioned in the exam fx materials. I am really surprised my potential employer recommended this course! I am in CA.

I have heard some not good things about ExamFX. I am currently looking at The License Coach. Has anyone else used this course?

When considering educational providers and the state insurance exam, there's a couple of things that people don't admit to, or, rarely admit to.

Educational providers, that is, prelicense and continuing education providers, are approved and/or licensed under state law. Just like any competitive environment, there's the good, bad and indifferent in terms of quality. There are hundreds of prelicense educators out there, and frankly, most of them are simply there to take your money. While it would be very easy for me to start throwing insurance education providers under a bus, I won't...I'll just tell you what to look for when considering your education.

What are those things that people generally won't admit to when it comes to this? Their own deficiencies and shortcomings. I have literally taught thousands of prelicense and continuing education students in my career, and upon failure to successfully complete a program, I hear a few commonalities as to why a student failed, say, an insurance exam.

I usually hear things like "The state test questions weren't the same as the ones on my practice exams!" That's because no state will give the actual test questions to the educational provider. None. The provider is attempting to mimic what you'll see. Next Arrow

"There was a lot of material on the state test that wasn't in my educational materials!" This one actually might be true, but just as often isn't. Every single state publishes a content outline that details what the test will ask of the testing candidate. Ya think it might be a good idea to get a copy of the content outline and find out what you're gonna be tested on? ShockedConfused Conversely, I've seen plenty of providers that don't have a CLUE of what's on the test, and all I can say is "good luck" to the person that buys that program.

"My teacher sucked" or "I took the class online and didn't have a person to talk to!" Another real possibility. I have seen plenty of bad teachers trying to do this stuff. As well, there are those persons that an online program simply doesn't work for; they need the "give and take" that a teacher can provide. I'm sorry for ya'll on these. We've all had crappy teachers before. The key to effective teaching technique with the stuff isn't the "nuts and bolts" knowledge of the insurance industry- it's the ability to teach to the test! Does the teacher know the test? If not- you're toast as a student if you rely fully on just the instructor.

Finally, those things that I rarely hear someone admit? Their own failings in terms of time spent in preparation; reading and understanding the material, practice quizzes and tests, communicating with the provider when difficulties arise, ESL issues (as almost every state tests in English) and other things that are deficiencies of the student.

ESL is a deficiency? How dare you, InsTeacher!! ShockedQuestion I didn't say if you have an ESL background you were stupid, I said it was a deficiency. If you're deficient in something, it simply means you're not efficient.

Finally, there are differences in educational providers and there can be great differences. You need to look at PASS RATES in the state. In some states, this information can be obtained. In others, it's confidential. If the educational provider has consistently high first-time pass rates, that's the one you go for and forget about cost. You'll pay more for a Mercedes than a Chevy and you'll get what you pay for generally.

I bought the Exam FX and am concerned that it is not the best material to study. Do you recommend another on line course to study for the state licensing exam?
