One thing I have found that works for me with HO insurance is Zillow.com. I can pick a street and see each address on that street. I can find out how much the house sold for. Then I cross reference against the county's assessor's page for specific information about the home. I prepare a quote for the home and send that along with a couple of brochures, a hand-written note and my business card.
I also include in the note what kind of discount they would receive if we insure their autos.
I cross reference my company's data base first to make sure none of the homes are already covered. I then follow up with another note a couple weeks later asking them to give me a call if they ever what a comparison on their insurance. _________________ Life moves pretty fast.
