For those of you who do use direct mail for homeowners how are you obtaining the information for homeowners?

The phone is one of your best sources for free leads. Call small business owners Tuesday-Thursday in the afternoon.

You can only do phone book calling to business owners.

If you want homeowner data you need to work with a list professional to ensure that you are not calling DNC people so that you don't get some hefty fines!

Further, you want to ensure people you are calling are qualified to purchase your products. List companies, such as ours, are able to choose selects like, age, sex, race, income, children in the home ($), debt to income ratio, whether they have a pool, etc, etc...

I know our company is registered already with the DNC.
These companies that sell lists are basically the same thing you can get from your local Recorder of Deeds?

Using this type of marketing, cold calling can cost you. I know I am on the do not call and will continue to be as long as they keep it alive and kicking, you can blame that on the phone companies that use the telemarketers to try and sell their product, the calls will drive you insane.

The lists I buy for cold calling are pre-scrubbed against the DNC and are re-scubbed every two weeks as per government regulation. They are also very good at giving month and date of birth so if you are working T-65 -
( turning 65 ) for Medicare or med supp you can be better ahead of the curve. Register of deeds and voter registration rles usually do not have this feature.

There are several that provide this service such as marcpub.com, thedatamangroup.com and cauldwelllist.com. The only drawback is that you have to buy a list with all the names in the age catergory and zip codes, the ones on the DNC list are just missing the telephone numbers.
So you could have a very low percentage of ones without numbers.

I have stumbled across a very good list company this past year for t-65 calling. They let you purchase only names with numbers and and have a price on 2500 names that the others charge for 1000.

I was just re-reading my post and was reading Goodnatured's post above mine and thought of annother good tip if seeing seniors using appointments from a call list that I do that is both beneficial to you as an agent and for your client.

Most of the people I have seen this past AEP/OEP were getting hammered with calls (mostly from obnoxious autodialers that have these robotic sounding pre-recorded messages) and the only reason they agreed to see me was the fact that I was very polite and assesd their needs honestly instead of trying to set a quick appointment.

On to the tip-

I always let them know that their name and number were not yet on the do not call list yet and if they wanted to stop the constant phone calls that they needed to call the government do not call list and register. I would also give them the toll free number to do this.

I do not know how many registered but I am sure many did and are no longer getting annoying calls all day. This could also stand to protect some of your business from other agents coming behind you and switching them.

I use salesgenie.com. The information is highly accurate and you can target based upon income, property value, family size, hobbies, credit depth, mortgage information, etc. It's pricey though. $999 a year for lite. You can browse unlimited on lite and download one free list up to 6,000 names. (Make sure to ask for the 6,000 free before buying each year.) Make sure you like cold calling though. It'll take 1,000 calls or more (not necessarily contacts) to recoup that $999. I enjoy it, but it's not for everyone. Of course, that doesn't count residuals.
