I was getting ready to take my insurance exam and wanted to know what if 20 years ago you were charged with theft and it is on your record will that stop me from getting a lic in PA.It is a longer story but I just like to know if I have a chance.

Well, though it has been long time back but the record of stealing can greatly affect your prospect as an agent.

You may check with the DOI site of PA, but IMO you may get disqualified for the theft in record.

It certainly may hurt you, but also may depend on what 'type' of theft it was...you might get by with something like, teens stealing water mellons...was the charge a misdem. or felony? and what type?

Even if you are able to get licensed by the state's department of insurance, you may still have trouble finding a job because of your background. Read the other posts mentioned above, and if there is any more information we can give you...let us know!

Talk to a attorney about getting it removed from your record. I would defiantly try it before I went to get my license.
