you have to stay positive above all in this business! there are many ways to get leads. alot of good points here but nobody telling you where to get leads from. what are you selling? life health FE LTC annuities? I am an Independant agency manager and I have dealt with this situation and have pretty much figured it out "for the most part"
hope I can help even a little. this is a great business for the people that dont mind hard work and rejection. but usually the rewards out wiegh the things that make this job tough "depending on your attitude"

Cool Cool Independent is really a nice idea.but you should not forget that you

need to keep different databases when you have variety of companies.lead

part is OK but database may become burden (in case if you are captive, you

just need to promote a single company).There are Pro's & Con's for each &

every aspect.someone is comfortable with independent, someone with

captive,depends on individual.

It looks like you are kind of confused as to how to market your life products.
To me door to door marketing is a waste of your most valuable asset, time.
Instead you can used targeted telemarketing from lists, put up advertisements like pole signs and take one brochures, do targeted mailings with letters that have good sales copy, and even buy internet leads. These will help you establish a customer base which will start giving you referral business and help you grow your business.

As far as being captive you need to ask yourself what that company is doing for you. Are they providing adequate leads and support?

Independent agents usually make higher commissions but are own their own for leads and support. You also have to be better organized to handle multiple carriers.

No! My dear, being captive or independent has very little to do with the success of the agent. Agents love to become independent since it allows them to run their own businesses. But a captive agent too can become successful in this trade.

You may have to invest more time in identifying the target market for you, IMO you're not actually reaching-out to the right people. Give it a fresh try, it may work for you this time. Good luck!!

Very Happy Very Happy I completely agree with moderator, that it is not the question of whether one is captive or independent,it only depends on what efforts one is putting in.So,in this regard it should be kept in mind that only final result only matter. Wink Wink

I'd stop leaving Bus cards on doors.
Try calling small business owners or even go out and spend a few hours walking into small businesses.
If you have some $, try buying leads.
The key is activity...the more people you talk to, the better your results will be.

hi gadget82, I think mip is right. You need to communicate with more people to get better results. For an insurance agent mouth to mouth publicity is the best source to increase his/her sales. You've to be positive & be patient. Don't stop your efforts. Work smart !!
