I am new to insurance. I have thought about being an agent before but did not have the time to check in to it, now that I have to make a career change I have been looking into it and was getting ready to take the exam in PA what would be a good company to use for the pretest and do they also give training help for the exam.

Hi TLE! Welcome aboard. Well, before I can give you an answer, I'd like to ask back couple of questions to you…..

Are you inquiring about the per-licensing training proving institutes or about the insurance companies that would sponsor you through the licensing process?

Which line of insurance are you interested in taking-up? life? P&C?

Why would you like to make a career change?

I'm asking because its always difficult to make a job switch and land yourself in a completely new career. And, especially, in this current market scenario a newbie may find it harder to set his foot in the field of insurance.

Have you had any experience in selling?

You need to interview with some of the insurance companies to know whether or not they would provide you with the training to get the license, otherwise, you may have to enroll yourself with the training institutes for the course materials.

Its important to decide beforehand whether you'd become an independent agent or captive. Both careers have their own pros and cons. While as a captive agent you can count on the brand name of a big insurance provider, as an independent agent you have to position your own brand.

Moreover, you are required to obtain separate licenses for both life and P&C if you want to operate in both lines. They have their separate licensing requirements, which you need to statisfy. I'd suggest you to visit the state insurance department's website to know about the application procedure and the requirements.

Also, just hang tight, the experts are on their way with more suggestions.
