Becoming an independent agent

Hi I have a few questions on becoming an independent agent. I am finishing my bachelors degree in finanace and took an insurance class.

1) Does anyone know if that class would fit the education requirement for the state of ohio?

2) Do you need to be sponsered by a company in order to take the exam in ohio?

Thanks

Are you referring to the pre-licensing insurance classes?

You may have to get yourself enrolled in one of those to prepare yourself for the licensing exam.

You can either enroll with the classroom coaching centers or may opt for the self study courses.

Well, it really depends on what type of license that you are trying to get, Life agent only? or plus health and accidental? Or even investment license?

ICY, can you just explain for me how Vandy's independency status would get altered by her choice of line of operation?

The pre-licensing class requirement can typically only be waived for extenuating circumstances. An example of these would be an agent licensed in another state and wishing to be a non-resident producer, an agent with years of experience who is coming back to the insurance industry, and sometimes college classes.

I have heard that you can get the school to write a letter detailing all areas addressed in your college courses, and if it meets or exceeds the requirements of the prelicensing course, they will exempt you.

It honestly is probably easier just to fly through one of the online courses. It's only 40 hours and it should be a breeze for you, and it's probably much less stressful than trying to get exempt status!
