They said

Unless, of course, they have a solid business painstakingly built over time

and I'd have to agree with that...I've seen too many 'fly by night' agents...family or not, I want some history in that agency before I trust 'em...family or not!

Neither every relative is same..nor our understanding of mindsets or intentions..would you agree with that?

If your relative is not someone with a view to future..or in some way is not transparent...then whats the use of getting around him? Claude_vantrap

Hi Mallik,

I've seen on more than one occasions how difficult it is to maintain professionalism between kins!
If you have experienced each other's company in more than one ways & are sure of gaining out of it, then only go ahead. Let your insight guide you..

I think it depends on your relationship also and what type of insurance they have with you.
If you are giving everyone the same best service then your relatives should be receive that treatment too.
My relatives prefer to have insurance with me cause they feel more confident. I have not been in the business long (1 year) and I have been very surprised how clients agents do not have a personal relationship with them.

I would base my decision to buy a policy from a family member more on how long they have been an insurance agent. During my career as a health insurance agent I have seen too many new agents get started by writing policies to their friends and family only to quit after those run out.

I think some agencies see new agents primarily as annother marketing tool to reach their friends and family.

On the other hand you will know how to find a family member if your policy doesnt live up to what they told you...

Actually, when I first started selling life insurance policies, the first people that I approached are may family and friends. The reason for this is simple. Family and friends trust you than other people. So they would likely to buy from me. But if you are the buyer of an insurance from a relative, this would really depends on how you trust that relative of yours. For me there is nothing wrong buying an insurance from a relative as long as it is sold to you in good faith. What I mean of good faith is that, the policy is really made to cater on your needs. We cannot deny the fact that their are agents who sell insurance policies only to earn more money even though the policy does not suit the client.

In general, I would prefer getting an insurance from a relative that you trust. If you have any questions about your policy, you can easily find your relative and you are comfortable asking question to him or her.

I don't think it would be a good idea. What if something happened to the relationship, you may have with the relative? Would they NOT 'have your back', because of this? Would they 'misplace' paperwork?

I think if you have all the documents at hand, there will be no problem at all. In fact, the insurance policy is given to the owner and does not remain with the agent.
