Hello,

We've recently started purchasing internet leads. One thing I've noticed in my short experience working with these people is that many are super-cautious about giving me their drivers license and social security numbers. I can't say I blame them for being cautious given the problem with identity fraud in society but I need this information to get them an accurate quote. I assume that most other companies require this infirmation as well.

So...for the people who immediately say "I won't give out that information over the phone" what can I say to make them feel at ease and give me the info so I can get them their quote.

I appreciate your advice. Thanks.

Be perfectly honest and tell them that the information will solely be used to provide them with the most accurate quote possible and then will be disposed of properly. I hate to tell you but if they are set on not giving up their information...at least one of the two then they are not that interested and you should just walk away.

The providers that I work with allows me to exclude some information and still get an accurate quote for the most part. If anything, exclude some info and make them aware that the rate can change once they provide the rest of the information.

Ditto Slappy.

You don't necessary need the SS to run financial stability. Since most states DL numbers are NOT social security numbers, getting the DL number usually isn't a problem for me.

I can understand why people are really leery about their SS numbers. With all the fraud out there you have to protect it with all you got. Are you talking to these people on the telephone or by PC? I won't give my SS out on the computer. Usually if I am interested I will ask for a phone number and then contact whom ever that way when making a purchase or inquiring about anything I seen on the net.

Hello,
Great question! The truth is these drivers know they will have to give out this information in getting quotes. They must not trust you to this point. It probably is in the way you are asking for it. Don't be timid and start being a lot more aggressive in getting them. You know they are required and can't proceed without it. Start like this. Hi this is Juston with (your company name) calling to save you money on auto insurance. Get name, address, ss#, drvers license and etc.. don't skip a beat or hesitate. Just act like it is an address or name, just a basic required question that they don't hesitate to provide you. If you don't learn how to do this with confidence and authority you will not be able to sell the leads anyway and you are wasting valuable time. It is required and they have to give it to you. If you seem hesitant, they will not give it to you and think you are some kind of rip off artist. If they question it, let them know who you are and what company you are with, give them a reason to feel safe and then proceed again with getting the information you need to give them a quote. Don't lolly gag around or agree with the customer or even be to nice, I know this sounds weird but true. I have studied it and had problems getting this information at times to. They are requesting a quote and you need this information.

Justong,
That is a great idea. I have been having that same problem with phone calls. I do everything over the phone so the clients never meet face to face. That is a great idea I will try that later today.

I've used a number of lead sources for different types of insurance. I've rarely had trouble with this question. It's either that your lead source is not good (they aren't connecting your call with actually wanting to request insurance prices) or your making a big deal out of it when you ask and scaring them. At least that's my opinion. Make sure to ask 5 to 10 other questions first and slide it in really cleanly, "And what's your social security number?" Make it seem like it would be shocking for them to disagree. Personally, I maintain tight data security controls. I have confidence that it's a safe question for them to answer.
