If you open the "Insurance Forums" tab at the top of this page and scroll down to the bottom under "Who's Online", you will find something like -
"1 Registered 1 Hidden 18 Guests"

I have watched this area over the past several months and the number of "Guests" has always been between 18-25, every single day.

Now, having 20 Guests on the forums for a day would not be at all unusual, but for this number to reamain approximately 20 every day for several months in a row just seems a little strange to me.

It's almost like we have a certain number of people assigned as "Guests" who come here every day to make posts just to keep the forums active.

If you were a guest here and you were looking for an answer to a question, don't you think you would ask a "specific" question?

Here are some of the "Guests" posts and there are many in every forum:

Quote:
"does your insurance go up if you add a driver to your policy"
"How do I know that I'm claiming the right dollar value (for an accident) with my car insurer?"
"What are the wet-ink policies?"
"What exactly does SHC sell, specifically, what are their lines and what is their reputation?"
"churchill insurance...is my pc coverd under personal possesions for accidental damage"
How do I qualify and apply for the social security disability insurance?

I have asked about the "Guest" situation only to be given the definition of what a "Guest" is, which amazingly, I already knew. Cool

What do you think?

Maze,

Like I have said earlier, '"guests" are non-registered members online in the forums at any given point of time. This number changes automatically at run time. The data is fetched from the forum database as you can see in the screen shots below,

Note: The time difference between the 2 screen shots is around 3-4 mins.

Thanks,
Lakemen

Maze, I think alot of guest read and read, many find their own situation in threads already addressed, therefore find no need to post....which makes perfect sense to me...

Or are you thinking there are 'paid' guests? is that it? I guess I don't know enough about forums, to find this at all unusual...

No, I'm not really saying there are paid guests. I just find it a little strange that there are always approximately 20 guests in the forums.

Hi Cepcrobre,

Welcome to the community forums!

Would you like to share any of your insurance experiences on board?
This is certainly a good place to earn knowledgeable friends who'd reply to insurance queries as well as share their experiences with you. Roddick

I expect that guests include people who may have this browser window open, but aren't actively surfing the page.

strange if the number is usually the same though - serial visitors but not contributors?

With how much INSURANCE is in the news today, I would guess there are a lot of "guests" snooping out all insurance forums.

Insurance is one of those industries where it's easy to get a bad name. people have a natural belief that no matter what they do, they're covered, and if they find out at claim time that they aren't - everyone screams that the insurer is a big bully and trying to rip the poor guy off.

unfortunately this is sometimes true, but just like real estate agents and sales people in general, it's the odd bad apple that spoils the whoe public perception of the industry.

One badly handled claim can destroy years of quality service.

Such beliefs are often the results of inexplicable terms and conditions that are present in one's insurance papers. We do also get misguided by an inefficient salesman at times. The best way to deal with this is to go through one's policy papers and ask as many questions as possible before one signs up.

If so I've not seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exsist. I'm sure there is something though, every policy I've ever seen has about ten pages of just 'definitions'
